The SBAs will of course revert back to the RoC to do with as it wishes.

But in true Cypriot hospitality mode, I am sure we can keep the "Britishness" connection going, in some form, for old time's sake. :D

Therefore, I suggest we come-up with some British connected ventures, that are more suitable in Cyprus.

I'll start with re-locating the Wimbledon Tennis Championships ..... since they are usually a wash-out, weather wise 8)

I fear if there's any "British connection", it would be because their massive natural spaces had been turned into horrible tourist traps for the English overflow from Agia Napa, Limassol and Paphos.

But you think the UK's going to give up a military/intelligence base in the Eastern Mediterranean/Middle East now, of all times!?

Yes now or very soon as they have no money! They need some new money-making ventures.

Wimbledon Tennis could transfer over with specialist sporting training facilities (maximise the good weather here), use the pre-existing SBA housing for accommodation. That way they could extend the Tournament times, maybe have a few Championships throughout the year.

It would be a JOINT Cypriot-Brit venture with proceeds-sharing to be negotiated :D

And you think we'd share our profits with you when we don't even pay our rent to you?

Then you will get nothing!

This offer is only open because of the generosity and forgiving spirit of the GCs. Otherwise it is enough for you, that you would be free from the financial burden these Bases are proving to be, on the ever-expanding Black Hole of debt, overwhelming the British subjects!

The Greek Cypriots should welcome them as kindred spirits after all they're both fighting an identical cause; both are trying to reclaim their homeland, the GCs over Northern Cyprus and the Israelis the Holy land.

The Israelis are the occupiers of the Palestinian territories. Which side should the Greek Cypriots welcome as kindred spirits?

How about declaring the former SBAs as cement free areas and do NOTHING with them? If that sounds too radical how about turning them into Biofarms or something useful. But please, let's NOT use the word "development"!

Using them to stage Wimbledon is not practical as we wouldn't be able to provide the nice green grass due to the water shortage.

A more practical approach would be to sell the accommodation to ex-pat Brits so that they really could have the Britain with sunshine that they are trying to make other parts of the island. We could then put a big fence around them to stop their animals being poisoned and the environment being contaminated with a Cypriot presence. Then we won't have to listen to their constant whinging about the "Cypriot way".

Perhaps if these Russians wishing to "honour" us with a theme park are serious; and as a compromise to avoid using land near existing villages, they can persuade the British to move-over and out of the Bases (perhaps sweetened with some building jobs for now unemployed SBA staff), to make room for this gargantuan presentation ...

An 'Overseas Prison Camp' for HMPS. And charge rent for each criminal

If ever the Brits hand over the bases, You keep Akrotiri, Dhekelia to be given to the TCs. Fair is fair.

I've got that twitch again.

Don't forget that this intelligence is shared among the major Western powers:

Of course the Anglo-American imperialists are not going to abandon this resource for nothing.

And you said you weren't a partitionist  (Or is Zan putting words in your mouth, again!)

They will of course be returned to the rightful custodians ... the Government of the people of the RoC.

Back on topic ....

The UK could save a lot of money it does not have ... by relinquishing the Bases to the RoC to host the 2012 Olympic Games. Thus saving the Brits, not only the money they fritter on Soldiers and their accessories, but also the huge cost of blitzing London to prepare .....
