If the Ottomans had not invaded Cyprus, then the Religion of the GC'S would be Roman Catholic. The Lusignians removed the power from the Orthodox Church and established the Roman Catholic Church on the island ca 1192/3

As I see Orthodox Christians began to develop a really strong sense of cohesiveness, With the conquest of Cyprus by Ottomans.

This by itself was the single most destructive action that the Ottomans ever took against the Greek Cypriots. They established the Orthodox Church (“ethnarchia”) as the governing authority of the Greek Cypriot “millet,” presumably because it was the most suitable method for them to secure the collection of taxes. Simultaneously though, they created a ruling elite (authority,) composed of a bunch of idiots (one can easily find out what kind of nuts they are by just observing their contemporary capricious and scorn attracting attitude,) who continued to play the role of the Greek Cypriot leadership even after the Ottomans left and together with the so-called “National Front” (Ethnicofrona parataxis,) they cased so much harm to the interests of the Greek Cypriots, over the last 50 years.

Thanks God people nowadays do not listen to them and they are not so much influenced by their preaching.

I do hope that you are right. I also apologise on behalf of the Ottoman Turks for this outrage.

The only trouble was things were different in those days and Religious Fanaticism was important to nearly everybody. The avereage man in the street WANTED his Orthodox Church back again.

PS the Ottomons also abolished "Serfdom" which effectively meant that Cypriot Peasant was able to OWN the land which he worked on.

Do you think the Ottomans really cared about the Greek Cypriots, their well-being and their religious freedom? They wanted "slaves" to work and produce, so that they could pay more taxes.
