Good qualified medical staff is in great demand here especially at the new Nicosia General Hospital...

Information: 1400
Larnaka New General Hospital: 24 800500
Larnaka Old General Hospital: 24 304312
Lemesos New General Hospital: 25 801100
Limasol Old General Hospital: 25 305333
Nicosia - Makarios Hospital: 22 405000
Nicosia Makarios Hospital (Thalassaemia Centre):
22 405000
Nicosia New General Hospital: 22 603000
Pafos General Hospital: 26 803100

As well as passing his medical license exams he would also have to pass a greek proficiency exam to work in any of those hospitals.

I wish Europe would just adopt the English language for work, I mean what's the point of moving to another EU country if a language barrier doesn't let you earn a living...

Tell that to the French! The Greek would make a much better common EU language. It is the basis for all European languages both west and east, and everybody should be glad to adopt it :D

Keep trying Snad , hope you do better than my wife bless her , 45 years with me and I have given up teaching her Greek , all the books , tapes , special lessons to no avail ! My daughter spoke no Greek until she came to Cyprus and through necessity she just had to learn. 15 years on and she has a good command of the Greek language .She had a private tutor and a great help from my brother who is a teacher at the American Academy in Limassol.
It is a fascinating language and so rich , the written Greek is a lot easier to read , being a phonetic language , than say the spoken Greek .

OMG Milti 45 years and she still can't speak it
What hope for me then?
I find its the verbs that are the worst and some words change as to what sentence you put them in.
When I speak to my Cypriot friends in Greek, they sometimes laugh at me as I have put the wrong word in the wrong sentence.
IE: Kaloh, kalee etc.
However, I am not a quitter and shall persist. I shall probably be fluent when they lay me in the ground

Learning Greek

Postby Titsup » Mon Jan 19, 2009 7:47 pm

Oh heck, no hope for me then! It seems like government hospitals are not an option, but what about a job in a private clinic seeing British ex-pats? Would I still have to do the Greek proficiency exam/ medical licensing exams then, does anyone know? I promise I'll try to learn Greek though since I don't want to get myself a bad name as one of those Brits who refuses to adapt and respect the Cypriot culture! Kalispera...
