Christofias Knows best!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Christofias Knows best!

Postby MrH » Tue Jan 13, 2009 1:41 pm

Please read the following on the Front page of the Cyprus Mail. And, what do the GCs expect? Do they really think that we will entrust our security and "Partnership" rights under a new agreement that is a so-called "EVOLUTION" of the Present GC Controlled/Hijacked Republic of Cyprus.

Everyone knows that the present GC-ROC is almost completely different to the ORIGINAL Republic of Cyprus signed in 1960. For instance, the GC-ROC of today has all of the 10 additional changes so desperately demanded by Makarios, thus the reason why the bi-communal fighting started in the first place (well, one of the many reasons!). In addition to those 10 original stated changes, the hijacked GC-ROC now probably has 100 more GC-Style-innovations (as they call them) - like, the removal of the powers of Veto by the Vice President and etc, etc....anything I guess to deem the Turkish Cypriots legless as a Partner people of the island of Cyprus.

The bottom line here is that a solution to the Cyprus problem can only materialise in the form of a Two-State solution. ALL GC based arguments of a "Unified" state, "Evolution" of the present GC-ROC and etc, so on so fourth are all obvious indicators of their wish for PURE DOMINATION. The year is 2009, NOT 1955!

President Mehmet Ali Talat is probably the most lenient Turkish Cypriot politician you may ever have the opportunity to negotiate with.... I would use him to broker an amicable agreement if I were you, as Dervish Eroglu will be a different kettle of fish. All Turkish Cypriots at home are warming up to the idea of, for the first time, unanimously supporting the Recognition of the TRNC. Why? Because they've (our brothers and sisters back home) finally practically-realised the rubbish, lack of confidence, games and lack of promises so desperately and falsely made by the Greek Cypriots since the 2004 referendum.

Time is running out, and I am loving it!!!!!! Keep up the imaginary "Evolution" idea my GC Compatriots and continue your "OXI" stance for a Federation based on two Constituent states! Your true colours of not wanting to SHARE Power under an honest Federal agreement is exposed. Sad!

Cyprus Mail:
Christofias despondent over ‘months without progress’
By Jean Christou

THE TURKISH side is seeking to weaken the powers of the proposed central government as much as possible in the current Cyprus negotiations, President Demetris Christofias said yesterday.

Christofias said the UN process envisioned the evolution of the Cypriot state into a federation, and “if we are to have any chance of an agreement this year”, the Turkish side must negotiate within this framework, he said.

The comments came just a few hours before Christofias was due to meet Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat for the second leaders’ meeting this year, where discussions on governance were due to continue.

“The insistence of the Turkish side to weaken the role of the federal government and to endow the federated units with most of the functions and powers, usually reserved for federal Governments, create concerns and suspicions that the Turkish side is aiming for an entity approaching confederation rather than federation, as prescribed in relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Cyprus,” Christofias said during a speech accepting the credentials of the new Maltese ambassador to Cyprus Dr Richard Vella Laurent.

“Unfortunately, despite our intensive efforts, after four months of work, I do not have real progress to report. A number of secondary issues have been agreed but there remain, however, significant differences of approach to the issue of the powers and functions of the central government, the system of governance as well as on foreign relations,” Christofias added.

The President’s comments mirror information leaked to Anatolia News Agency last month, which claimed the Turkish Cypriot side was seeking as much autonomy as it could get in a federal solution.

One such demand was for separate Flight Information Regions (FIR), which the Greek Cypriot side argue is tantamount to asking for two separate states. Another comes under the topic of international agreements made by the federal state.

The Turkish Cypriot side wants a footnote to be included which says that the two constituent states can also make international agreements within their own spheres of authority. They also argue that the constituent states should be able to “implement federal government’s laws unilaterally in “appropriate situations”.

But the Greek Cypriot side says it should be the federal government which decides whether its laws should be implemented by the constituent states.

During the two-and-a-half-hour meeting between the leaders in the afternoon, they spent 30 minutes alone before negotiations got under way with UN Special Advisor Alexander Downer.

Downer said afterwards the discussions then focused on relations between a federal government and the constituent states.

“That was quite a long discussion about that,” he said.

Downer said there had also been a renewal of a discussion that had been held sometime earlier on deadlock resolving mechanisms.

“These discussions will continue again on Friday morning,” said Downer. “That will be the last discussion for the time being between the leaders on governance and power sharing and then in all probability at their next meeting they will work out the date for next meeting.”

Downer said that meeting would see the start of discussions on the property question.

As always, you start with NONSENSE invented in your mind, and then go on to draw fallible “conclusions” which you then want to debate!

Now how did I know you'd answer first - how concerned you are my friend. If you look at this situation closely, you'll actually notice that I had predicted exactly what Christofias says in the report above. Did I not say that Christofias will not be able to TRICK Talat into a bogus "Evolution" resolution idea. And, did I not say that the ANNAN PLAN idea was the best the Greek Cypriots can ever expect as a compromise from us (Turkish Cypriots).

Wake up and smell the roses Get Real, as I believe, if I am not mistaken, Christofias is beginning to understand his limits of Achilles' Heel!.

Continue with your remarks mate, as I'm looking forward to one day inviting you to my Girne (Kyrenia) pad when Northern Cyprus is a recognised state - perhaps then you will finally tie in to the reality of a partnership agreement?

You have until Talat is President, as after that, under the UBP leader, the people of Northern Cyprus will Change(if they have started already); the cease-fire line may not be as peaceful, our wispering may not be so quiet and our subtle stance may not be so subtle!

MrH really, whats this crap about 1960 agreements, turkey is pick and mixing the parts it likes...

lets revert back to the agreement where turkey gave all its rights to cyprus away.. no go home back to turkey... ;)

if it was not for england saving your asses helping turkey side step the agreement for its own gane the turks wouldent be here now.

turks are a minority in cyprus they need to get over it you dont see any of the countries like england with minorities complaining trying to make a republic of their own...

lets give the other minorities in cyprus a state, the russian republic of south east cyprus since there are a shit load of russians im sure they dont want to live as a minority either lets see how many ways we ca split cyprus up..

turkey is never happy they want to steal everything that doe snot belong to them... FIRST GIVE KURDS 50% POWER AND LAND IN TURKEY AND DONT SAY ITS UNACCEPTABLE THEN TRY TELL US THE SAME THING WHICH TURKEY IS FINDING UNACCEPTABLE BECAUSE ITS "THEIR COUNTRY" IS ACCEPTABLE HERE ALSO what makes that any different to cyprus? kurds are a minority that dont want o live under turk rule.. why not grant them their own state? you guys obivously feel its acceptable thing to demand.

who can blame them not wanting to live ina turk goverment!

talat is taking taking and trying to take more and putting foward unacceptable demands which is why we are getting nowhere with talks, gc side says re unification tc side says partition. what happens in the end when both sides agree on nothing and they change the "trnc" leader in the north to a partitionist who wont budge any more then tassos did? doesent look good for the "trnc" now talat wants a solution before his time is up but i doubt there will be one

paliometoxo,
lets revert back to the agreement where turkey gave all its rights to cyprus away.. no go home back to turkey...

Jesus Paliometoxo (man, what a long name!), I am a Turkish Cypriot. If the above is the case, then why did Christofias SO DESPERATELY Beg and Plead the late EOKA Terrorist Tassos Papadopoulos that his actions in ceasing communication with the TCs will cause us (the GCs) serious political issues. And, why did he say, when he became your president, that he will REINSTATE Greek Cypriot Credibility again by Re-engaging in inter-communal talks at a UN level?

Come on mate, Turkey DID NOT sign ANYTHING away, that's just the Greek Cypriot's desperate mind for domination. The Annan Plan's endorsement by Tassos Papadopoulos Prior to the Referendum was evidence of Turkey's influence of the political stage affecting the negotiation process in Cyprus.

Without Turkey becoming a Member of the EU first, Cyprus will always have to Negotiate a Two State formula based on EQUALITY. However, once Turkey is a full Member of the EU - well, I guess the tables will be turned and the ball will obviously be in Turkey's corner (and Turkey will be bating!). Bating hundreds of Turks from Turkey directly into the heart of Larnaca and Ayia Napa - Or should I say "Iskele" by then.

i hope turkey does make it into the eu but i doubt that will ever happen... by ignoring all rules and laws turkey expects to join europe? ignoring the eu and going on the news anouncing the rest of eu should be like them? is that how they expect to join europe? i hope im wrong and they do join they would be a great alley in europe and help having such a alrge amount of population in the country

and yes turkey signed away all rights to cyprus but with the help of england they side stepped the agreement.. google it ...the Lausanne treaty by which turkey had given up every right over cyprus...
