Cypriot Football getting closer to agreeing re-unification

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

For those who want confirmation of this remarkable change of mind, one that came after months of talks and negotiations, here's what the ViceChair of the CFA had to say after hearing of the tearing up of the agreement.

From Sigma...

Roughly, the ViceChair of the CFA is saying

That he has seen the press reports of the cancellation. That the CFA has no official position on the change of attitude. That the document that was signed this morning was the result of several months of negotiations and was also discussed with Mssrs Blatter and Platini. That he is surprised they did not understand the agreement and surprised at the change of heart.

Starting to see confirmations in the turkish-speaking press in "trnc", which confirm that we could be forgiven for saying that Mr Sertoğlu knew exactly what he was signing and from which we also learn of the claim, that after months of negotiations, that this was no more than a draft text and not an agreement ... ...

This from kibristime...

"... The draft text signed in Zurich with the aim of combining football under one roof does not meet our needs, according to Cyprus Turkish Football Federation President Hasan Sertoğlu . We will continue our struggle for improvement ...."

For turkish-speakers...

“TASLAK METİN BİZİM İSTEKLERİMİZİ YERİNE GETİRMEZ”

Kıbrıs Türk Futbol Federasyonu Başkanı Hasan Sertoğlu, Kıbrıs’ta futbolun tek çatı altında birleştirilmesi hedefiyle Zürih’te imzalanan taslak metin için “taslak metin bizim isteklerimizi yerine getirmez. İyileştirme için mücadelemiz sürecek” dedi.

.....

A "draft text" ...!!!

Yet, on its website EUFA have the headline Landmark arrangement for Cyprus

EUFA go on to describe what Mr Sertoğlu is now telling us is a "draft text" as being the result of months of consultations and discussion...

"... The arrangement, which has come to fruition following several months of consultation and discussion, was signed on Tuesday at FIFA's headquarters in Zurich by the CFA president Costakis Koutsokoumnis, CTFA president Hasan Sertoğlu, FIFA President Joseph Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini..."

I don't believe that the TCs who signed this deal failed to understand what they were signing.

All I can think, Bill, is that they were forced to backtrack after the wider public realised that no separate recognition was forthcoming and that Turkish Cypriot football was now under the jurisdiction of the recognised Cyprus FA.

It's time the TCs woke up to the reality that they can only come back into the international fold under the authority of the recognised authorities on the island.

You'd think after all this time they'd understand this is their only prospect.

Yes deffo Demon, someone back in "trnc" saw the EUFA story at http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/ ... 18929.html
and let's be frank, they would have absolutely blown their top, blown a gasket and blown anything else that was to hand and got on to the "t"CFA team in Zurich to order them to issue an immediate retraction in an or else sort of way.

According to the Washington Post, the TC soccer chief sounded happy enough with the agreement when they spoke to him in Zurich albeit with some reservations. But the premise that TC football was coming under the jurisdiction of the CFA is clear enough...

“It doesn’t satisfy me 100 percent, but later meetings will be able to satisfy me 100 percent,” Cyprus Turkish Football Association president Hasan Sertoglus said through a translator.

After nearly 60 years of separation for the two soccer bodies, Sertoglu hailed the progress which should lead to his organization joining the CFA, which is a member of FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations.

“We are excited and happy,” Sertoglu said by telephone from FIFA headquarters in Zurich. “It can help politicians to make progress as well.”

This is about to turn into a PR fiasco, kind of what is currently going on with Downer, gotta read today's politis.Downer walked right into a wall/trap over the weekend by going behind pres,A back to UnSG while the two parties are basicaly 95% down with starting negotiations by issuing a common memo on the road to a solution.

Aside from looking clueless and an illiterate in comprehending what was written on the paper that he had signed which had been negotiated for several weeks, and then it took him further 3 hours to realise what he had signed, doesn't leave much more to say about this clown, does it?

Next time get someone there to negotiate who can speak English btw.
