Germany's foreign minister said Monday during a rare visit to Hamas-ruled Gaza that the Israeli-Egyptian blockade of 1.5 million Palestinians living in the coastal strip is unacceptable and must end.

Iran slams Israeli war threats

Iran has lashed out at Israeli prime minister's comments that encourage the US to take military action against Tehran.

Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told Press TV that Tehran has taken legal action in the United Nations against the Israeli threat.

"Our mission in New York will send a note to the secretary general of the United Nations and register this kind of threats of the [Israeli] regime in the region," the Iranian top diplomat said.

"The existence of this illegal regime is mixed with violation, terror, threats and aggression," Mottaki stated.

LONDON – In the second attack on Israel by Liberal Democrat politicians in the same week that the party’s leader said the party got it wrong on Israel, Jenny Tonge claimed on Friday that Israel’s treatment of Palestinians is the root cause of terrorism worldwide.

Possibly “Holocaust guilt” allows this treatment to go unchecked, Tonge said, adding that it might also be the “power of the pro-Israel lobby” in the UK and US.

Israeli soldiers walk free in Gaza human shield case

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Two Israeli soldiers received suspended sentences and demotions on Sunday for using a Palestinian child as a human shield during the 2008-2009 Gaza war, an army spokeswoman said.

The soldiers were convicted on October 3 for forcing a nine-year-old boy to search bags believed to be booby-trapped during Israel's 22-day war on Gaza which erupted in December 2008.

The two, who were not identified, were each given suspended terms of three months imprisonment and were demoted from the rank of staff sergeant to sergeant.

Israel bars entry to W Bank firemen

Ceremony to honour firefighters cancelled after Israel denies entry permits to Palestinians who helped battle blaze.

Israel has barred a group of Palestinian firefighters from attending a ceremony where they were to be honoured for their help in battling a deadly forest fire last week.

At least 10 Palestinians were invited to attend the event in northern Israel, where the four-day fire left 41 people dead and ravaged large swaths of forest.

But Ahmad Tibi, an Arab member of the Israeli parliament and one of the organisers of the ceremony, said the event was cancelled when three of the Palestinians were refused entry permits to Israel on Tuesday.

He said the military had turned the firefighters away on security grounds.

"It's a theatre of the absurd," he told The Associated Press news agency. "This is a regular day-to-day practice of the occupation, and it exposes its ugly face."

Seattle buses to carry ‘Israeli war crimes’ ads

Buses in downtown Seattle will carry advertisements about "Israeli war crimes" to mark the second year since the Gaza war.

The Seattle Midwest Awareness Campaign has paid $1,794 to place the advertisements on 12 buses beginning Dec. 27, the day Israel entered Gaza to stop rocket attacks on its southern communities, according to Seattle's King 5 News.
