7,500 Palestinians held in Israeli jails

At least 7,500 Palestinians were being held in Israeli jails and detention facilities at the end of 2009, the Palestinian Authority said on Thursday.

The detainees include 34 women, 310 children and 304 people being held under administrative detention without trial, according to a report published by the prisoners affairs ministry.

The detainees also include 17 MPs, most of them from the Islamist Hamas movement, two former ministers, and a number of political leaders.

Why are they being held. Presumably their detention is costing Israel something , food , the guards etc so why on earth are they being held. Is it perhaps their intention to slit their throats while recording this gruesome act and post it on a website.

IDF to seek legal advice during future conflicts

IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi has issued an order requiring the Israel Defense Forces to consult with the army's legal advisers while military operations are underway and not just when they are being planned.

Ashkenazi imposed the stricter regulations despite opposition by several commanders, including members of the General Staff.

Hopefully our government is realising that the electorate here want an end to the people of Palestine being prisoners in their own country and ill treated and oft murdered prisoners at that. I hate to say it but the Israelis picked up a few tips from the German Nazis.
