How should the Office of the President of the new Republic of Cyprus be split between the to communities. Should we have a new arrangement or should we be using European Union principals. I hope its the latter because it means 50/50.

Come on all Cypriots. Lets hear you.

Your poll is based on the assumption that everyone agrees with a community based political arrangement in the 21st century!

firstly i'm not sure it would be called the new roc so to speak.
then i think it should use e.u principles with a vote for all people.
you then may find it would not just be the tc's and gc's in control as other would be able to have a vote.
you may end up with non cypriot m.p's.

Under EU rules, permanent residents who are nationals of another EU country are entitled to vote and stand for election in municipal and EU elections only, but not in national elections. It seems to be becoming a bit of an urban myth that one day there will be non-Cypriot MPs.

Communal arrangements are methodologies from the middle ages but civilization has since moved on to nationwide democracy…

The question is very simple and you guys are complicating it. The negotiations may be taking place currently to agree on a percentage of split in terms of length of time in office to be included in the constitution.

1 Either you agree on a European way – equal length served no matter what size population

2 Or a different percentage depending on population to be negotiated.

3 The only other consideration is two states.

Lets play the devils advocate and say if there is an agreement which one would you favour? But lets here some arguments for and against each one, as well as reasons and suggestions please.

What the current president of Cyprus agrees to is one thing, and what ends up getting approved and accepted is entirely another.

The only two REALISTIC outcomes in this day and age are…

1. Democracy
2. War that leads to Democracy.

Trust unkie GR who learns from the past…
