There is a lot of that going about Bir....I can vouch for that.....The faces on some TCs were getting on my nerves as well...Although I cant say that they were all TCs..The ones with the most that is...They drive around in cars that I know I can't afford, and think they should be treated like Kings...A few looked at me as if I was the scum of the earth...Even more so when they heard my TC accent. I had a lot of good times both with TCs and Mainland Turks as well...So I will ignore the miserable bastards that were rude just the same as I do in the UK...I did not forget the hardships they have to endure though and the limbo in which they have to live, but snobbery seems to be a great pass time in the TRNC...

There are a few Phd thesisses for social psychologists begging to be done in the trnc,mate...They are making a mess of the whole settler business...
There seems to be no planning or thinking going on....The biggest victims are probably the second generation, those who are caught between two cultures,Turkish and TC...There is no social services to deal with their problems of identity and belonging..My main concern is the political one ...These people are easily manipulated by Turkey, and they have voting rights....

One of the conclusions that I made in the course of my Famagusta assignment was that these Cyprus-born second-generation settlers are alienated from everybody and everything - including Turkey. Don't forget that a large number of settlers come from what may be considered minority communities within Turkey - Kurds, Laz, Arabic-speakers. This in itself must influence the degree to which they see Turkey as being the motherland. Their parents may well have toed the line set by Turkey, but I am no longer convinced that their children will.

If there was any other government than the present one I would agree with you,Tim...But the AKP is higly skilled in manipulating these people's religious beliefs....The second generation would still probabaly vote as their parents, and that is where the influence would come from,imho...
