Don't add suppositions to your posts Pyro....They ruin what you have to say....

I saw many GCs in the TRNC when I was there last summer.....The only trouble I saw was with two GCs at a snack bar.....One didn't like the way his sandwich was made and was getting angry when the other told him to shut up and eat it and to stop being so stupid...They then gave each other a nasty look and ate in silence....The oner of the bar could not do enough to make them happy.....This was in Girne by the way....I was also approached by a waiter in Lefkosa who asked if I were british because not many Tcs went to his restaurant....

In general people are polite on both sides of the divide but TC are more protective of GCs, dont ask me why this is but this is something I sense. Ill give you and example ı was trying to find a parking space in Bellapias which is always a problem, there was a taxi driver (settler) shouting at a GC driver who was blocking the road, he was obviously lost and confused, the shouting didnt help, a TC got out of his car went over to the taxi driver and told him to shut the fuck up he proceeded to tell the GC driver to follow him out of the jam and the problem was resolved......

I have never allowed myself to think of a people as bad VP...I have tried to always point out he Gc admin when I accuse anyone of anything but am always surprised at people being surprised by an act of kindness in any situation....They can only think that if they believe the stories that we are animals and we believe the stories about them....Even with people like Piratis and Oracle I still will not allow myself that misconception...GR seems to have mellowed but you can never be too sure with him....

But as in every day life there are people on this forum that I would never associate with in the real world, I just ignore their post or never respond.

I agree VP but the people who I put my faith in to act responsibly seem to fall into the trap as well....You and I both know the ones that are beyond help.....It is the childish remarks that come out of the mouths of the ones I trust hat makes me laugh.....

Someone told me a theory that we better let all the settlers stay. Accrording to this theory the more we are in Cyprus the better. I don' know...

Imo the settler issue has 3 serious effects a) it changes the demographics with whatever consequences that will have b)they hold GC properties and i don't think they easilyly let go. and c) many of them were given voting rights (see the Ann Plan voting percentages 33%!!! came from "TCs"= Real TCs+settlers.

One more huge obstacle to the solution.

Delighted to see you back, dear Pyro...You were greatly missed....

I read somewhere recently that the percentage of settlers kids in the biggest primary school in Nicosia (Ataturk Primary, withing the walls) is pushing 95%.... :( :(

I also heard from the horse's mouth (a primary-school teacher relative of mine, who works in Omorpho) that even in Morphou the percentage is pushing 60...

My educated guess of the real TC numbers is about 80,000....And there are at least 300,000 settlers, not all with citizenship rights... :(

This is a tragedy- in- waiting for the TCs and for for the solution prospects...The present government did its best not to grant too many citizenships to the settlers, but they are not going anywhere fast...
Socially, the problem shows itself in forum of "gettos" of people vastly different to the TCs whose primary source of influence is the Turkish government...Politically this robs the TCs of their own will and right of self-determination....This problem should be addressed very quickly before it is too late... :(

Welcome back Pyro...Hope your marital problems did not take too much out of you.. :)

Bir.......Did ou ever meet any of the "Settlers" that have been there for over 30 years????

The last time I was in the trnc was in 1999....So the earlier settler would have been there no longer than 25 years...I did meet some of these, mostly waiters and restaurant owners, taxi drivers etc...Why did you ask???

Pyrpolizer wrote:Well, how can I go without greeting you personally dear Birkibrisli. I miss all the good friends from the forum too, but you are always in my heart be sure of that.

About the settler issue: Nicosia within the walls is full of settlers everybody knows that. The same happens in the GC part I mean Nicosia within the walls is mostly inhabited by foreign workers. Phaneromeni high school-one of the oldest GC schools in Nicosia, now operates as school for the children of those people.

The situation at Morfou is more representative about the settlers I think. I ‘ve een there, we even had a sad incident with a young settlers couple sitting next table, I mean the young woman complained to the TC owner that she doesn’t like the presence of GCs there. Our TC friend got very angry, said something and they both left… I have the impression the settlers are shit afraid of the TCs, am I right? But they always have the protection of the Turkish Army, if anything happens they go directly to an army officer and blah, blah, blah, they get their way done, and the TCs can do nothing about it.

Thank you for your kind words, dear Pyro...

I would imagine the settlers ,being the newcomers, are a bit intimidated and weary of the TCs...I don't have direct experience of this,however...And I am not sure how much the Turkish Army would go out of their way to help these people...Perhaps someone who lives in the trnc can enlighten us...

I can't make the comparison ,mate...I was there for only 10 days...The people I met were very polite and respectful, exactly as they would be if they were in Turkey...But I did meet a Cypriot Turk while holidaying in Turkey in 1999...He was born in Cyprus but had returned to Turkey for family reasons...He had a lot of complaints about how he was treated by the TCs in Cyprus... :( :(

Oh! There is a lot of that going about Bir....I can vouch for that.....The faces on some TCs were getting on my nerves as well...Although I cant say that they were all TCs..The ones with the most that is...They drive around in cars that I know I can't afford, and think they should be treated like Kings...A few looked at me as if I was the scum of the earth...Even more so when they heard my TC accent. I had a lot of good times both with TCs and Mainland Turks as well...So I will ignore the miserable bastards that were rude just the same as I do in the UK...I did not forget the hardships they have to endure though and the limbo in which they have to live, but snobbery seems to be a great pass time in the TRNC...
