Very much depends on what kind of job you are looking for. If you're looking for something casual like bar work your best bet is to turn up early in the summer season and ask around in somewhere like Agia Napa - but they may not be willing to give you the contract you probably need to get immigration papers.

If you have skills or qualifications, your best bet is to speak on the phone to recruitment agencies - do a web search for Global Recruitment Solutions or AP Executive and give them a call on Monday.

Cook / chef - not an area I know a great deal about, but I imagine if you came to Cyprus in early March, all the tourist hotels would be thinking about hiring. Afraid I don't have any contacts in that area - you could try phoning the chain hotels (Holiday Inn, Hilton, Four Seasons), and see if they have any vacancies.

Only problem is they're probably legally obliged to take Cyprus / EU citizens where they can find them.

Moving to Southern Cyprus

You will need to go to Immigration and register your stay on the island if you intend living permently, take with you several photocopies of paperwork with you, they say one copy but they really mean four or five! If you wonder, will I need this, take it as you can be sure that if you leave it at home they will want that one piece of information. Save Bank statements before you leave your original country, they do want to see you can support yourself financially and money laundering is not an issue.

I'm sorry to inform you that if you are NON EU you will have very little chance getting work here in Cyprus. In order to obtain a working visa you must find an employer that will sponsor you for your visa. That is the only way you will LEGALLY work in this country. Companies and Businesses are required to offer positions to Cypriots then EU member citizens and then if no EU member citizen can perform the job then, and only then is the job open to non members.. You can come to cyprus but must inform immigration that you plan on staying here and apply for a visitors visa. With this you must prove that you have enough money to support yourself for at least one year.. apprx €6000+ euros. If you are approved for visitors visa you will be issued one for 1 year.. then after this one year you must re-apply. A visitors visa does not give you right to work in the country, only right to actually be here.
Unfortunately Cyprus is not the place to come if you're non EU and looking to work.. Jobs are limited and pay is very low. I would re-consider the move if I were you.

Yes I am sure of this. This is the law.. now whether people choose to practice what the law says is entirely up to them.. But this is what I was told upon moving to Cyprus. Hence why I have not worked in Cyprus since i've been here.

The law is that all EU citizens should be treated the same regarding employment, preference can't be given to Cypriots.

However, Cypriots have one major advantage over most other EU nationals in that they speak Greek, which is one of the official languages of Cyprus. English is not an official language here.

So if EU nationals are not available for a particular position, so called third country nationals (non-EU) may be considered and work permits applied for.
