Did the “enosis” agenda really justify Turkey’s reactions?
Some of you seem to think that the 20th century GC nostalgia and agenda for enosis with Greece was a justifiable excuse for Turkey to act militarily in one way or another but…
Cyprus in the 20th century was all about a Muslim Ottoman minority being completely out of place on a Christian island as a result of past crimes and stupidities of the Ottomans themselves!
On two occasions serious efforts were made for this minority to be transferred back to their homeland, or what became of it in the form of modern Turkey, yet the majority chose to stay on Cyprus knowing only too well that they now seriously had to blend in with the overwhelming Christian majority and that the Ottoman games were well and truly over!
Therefore, if this predominantly Christian island was to later decide to align itself with another country such as Greece or Iceland for that matter, then it was entirely the overwhelming indigenous majority’s prerogative to do so and for the Muslim Ottoman minority to treat it once again as an opportunity to return to their homeland or go along with it. After all, the indigenous Christian population of Cyprus did not invite or cause this Muslim Ottoman minority to be on this island in this predicament.
If Turkey was so concerned about the fate of this Muslim Ottoman minority why did she not propose to send three-four ships a mere 40 miles across the sea, and take these “unfortunate” people to their homeland where she could squeeze them on her bosom till the cows come home? Surely if you love someone so much you’d want them to be near you and well looked after!
Unfortunately, she did not and decided that these “treasured” people outnumbered by 4 or 5 to one, be provided with arms so that they could “liberate” themselves through an armed struggle!
Now those of you who have read this far and consider yourselves "intelligent" work out the rest of this story…
