land advice for land

Postby ellax2 » Thu Jan 08, 2009 10:24 pm

Hi

what is the situation when Turkish Cypriots still have the deeds to the land they owned before the troubles and they want to register their deeds in their childrens name?

are there any trustworthy lawyers that could inform us and would it be better for us to get a lawyer in Cyprus or London where we currently live?

thank you

You shouldn’t need a lawyer for that… just go to the Department of Lands and Surveys…

Turkish:

It is a straight forward procedure...no solicitors needed at all. Just go to the land registry with the original deeds fill in a form - or get someone there to fill it in for you for a small fee - obtain a number and wait till they call you. Once they call you it takes five minutes for the transfer. Prepare to wait though for 2-3 hours depending on the day.

thank you so much for your replies, we have been stressing so much about this... and no one seems to have been able to advise us. We live in London so I think we will have to come over to Cyprus... this forum is great.

No don't worry. Be prepared to waste an entire working day there to get the job done because it's always packed and the place is awful. Go really early like 7.30am!

Agree with the above.

Ellax - things are done differently in Cy - no need for lawyers.

When you get to the Land Registry Office for the District your land is in, you'll see some chaps/chapesses sitting at desks in the public waiting area. These people and they are all private individuals, not civil servants, know the ins and outs of the registration process, they know the bureaucracy, which forms to fill in etc. For a few quid they will get the forms, fill them in for you and take them in to the appropriate officials in the office proper and they may also make things a bit quicker but as said above do be prepared for a long day or two or three.

we live in London in the UK at the moment so i think that we will have to come over... unless we can do it in London somehow... My dad died 6 months ago and we are dealing with it all now, i think he found the situation too difficult/upsetting to deal with... But from what you say, it doesnt sound too difficult which is a big relief...
