Stg not doing well at at all against the Euro , my gut feeling is that Stg is grossly undervalued and that the E will come under pressure towards the end of the month.

IMO, stg and euros are both overvalued given the state of their respective economies. Thing is, no other currency has emerged as the most viable competitor against them (and USD). Once clarity is reached to that end, all three currencies will fall in a big way.

I realize that this is a small-time kind of thread and professional analyses don't necessarily apply. But nobody ever went wrong using an overabundance of caution in their dealings.

Hi to all. i will be visiting Cyprus 8th Feb and hoping to deposit some Euros (max 2.5k) into my Cyprus bank account. What is the best way to bring currency out to Cyprus at the moment - Cash - Euros, Cash - Stg, travellers cheques Euro or Stg. I'm given to beleive the banks charge quite a bit to pay in money in cheques.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can do a Roy World transfer (£20 - £30 fee depending on speed you wish) from your UK bank direct to your Cyprus bank; then withdraw for free whilst in Cyprus.... It's such a small amount you are transferring, it's not worth getting too elaborate.

Hi Keith , you say that you hope to bank 2.5 k Euros , then is simple just bank your euros . Unless you dont have euros and you will change stg into euros. The best way is to hold on to your stg until first week of Feb , then , if you are in Cyprus by then , check out the best available rates. Avoid banks and look for shops that display STG-Euro rates.

How boring you must be on holiday ... looking out for shops to change some money, at the best rate, to save a few Euro!

Thanks Oracle and miltiades. Miltiades, i don't have Euros. Do you believe i will get a better exchange rate in Cyprus than UK? During my previous visits to Cyprus i have found this to be the case but, with the present economic climate i am not sure if this was still the case. Would i get the best rate with STG cheques or cash? However, not sure if i want to be walking around with that much cash but, can't have it all ways eh?

Rgds

You wouldn't want to walk around with that much cash in the UK, but it is no problem here.
