Army regulations when emigrating to cyprus....?

Postby missinnocence » Tue Jan 06, 2009 12:27 am

Hiya,

Me and my fella are unsure of something and was wondering if anyone could help......

My boyfriend is Uk born but his mother and father are greek cypriot....
If we wanted to emigrate to cyprus, would he have to go into their army, and if so how long for?

Would there be any way out of it?

Thanks :-)

Carrie

There are some old threads on this if you do a search.

As far as I know, if his father is a GC, then yes he will have to do Military service if you want to reside, and perhaps he would need a special exit visa even if you visited for a holiday.

Ring the Cyprus Embassy / Consulate / High Commission in London and they have a designated person who will help you out 100%.

Sorry this is rushed, but I have to dash ... but at least the thread will get bumped up, and someone else will give you more info.

If you are still struggling, I'll find the threads for you and phone numbers ... but later! :D

Whilst looking for this, I came across a ref that female members are able to volunteer to the Guard. :D

He would probably have to do six months, unless he is over 50 in which case he will not have to serve.

If he doesn't need an exit permit and keeps his head down, they might never call him up, but it would probably be better for him to get it over and done with straight away rather than get caught after you have been here a few years, when it would be a much greater hardship.

you have to go volonteer and also when you go to do the army wyou have to have papers saying he was born and raised in england otherwise they will make him do two years if he has the papers he will do 6 or 3 months if he is older then 25

i think its 3 months if hes over 25 and 6 months otherwise but i may be wrong.

plus they get special treatment, as in go home by noon almost every day (may vary depending on enlistment area)
