well to start with it would be a blinding experience
and secondly it would save loads of money
but if I'm not allowed to do it then I wont
unless someone else can show some other light on it

I was gonna ship my car out when i move soon but have since decided to sell it and buy a car when i get there...from all the info i have read about it, it seems to be more hassle than its worth however you do it and depending on the car type and age etc it could cost you quite a lot of money to get it registered....in my case it would have cost me more than the car cost me in the first place....sorry to put a downer on it for you.

If bringing a car from the UK is such a hassle, why is there such a big trade in second hand cars from the UK?

I brought two cars in over three years ago when it was much more complicated than now. Apart from taking about six months to sort out and having to visit the customs 7 or 8 times, it wasn't that difficult. There was no duty to pay and the registration fees were under 1000 Euros.

However bringing the car in from the north is a definite no-no.

If you arrive in Cyprus through any port or airport in the TRNC (northern occupied area) then you will not be allowed to cross over to the R0C (southern Greek Cypriot area).
You will have been deemed to have entered Cyprus through an illegal port of entry as far as the RoC is concerned.
If your intention is to stay in the TRNC then you need to get information from that side about importing your car.

That information is out of date. This practice has been deemed to breach the principle of free movement within the EU and consequently one may now cross from the north to the south regardless of one's port of entry. I have no idea what the situation is with bringing a car in, and I doubt if anybody else on this forum has, either.

Thank you, Tim, for the correction. I had no idea the situation had changed.

It is an odd situation, really. Technically you still commit an illegal act under RoC laws by entering the island through a port in the north, but EU legislation takes priority over national laws, so you can no longer be prosecuted for doing this. This was established in a test case a few years ago.
