Well Thank you all for your input .
although I'm still none the wiser , so how about bringing a vehicle over by car ferry from Greece or Italy , are there any ????
does anybody know ????
I have been quoted 1500 euros to ship one from Southampton to Limassol and then I've been quoted 500 euros to get it out of the port , so I'm trying to save some money plus have the experience of driving through some of Europe
Any help please ?????????

Those quotes are way over the top. You can drive it to Italy or Greece and have it shipped to Limassol. Not sure who does it from Greece, but think it is Grimaldi Lines from Italy (you may even be able to travel with it from Italy, but not Greece).

Got my cars out of Limassol port by myself for about 50 Euros, just don't take any bullshit from anyone there!

hi there to all im fitz just recently joined the cy forum.

i think basically if you look at 2nd hand cypriot prices for cars ud be amazed at the difference between the uk and cy. ive got a 99 bmw touring that i bought for 1750 which is factory done m3 absolutely stunning, but then i saw a 99 318 standard saloon for 7000e's, WHAT!!! so i guess paying the shipping plus landing duty would be still saving a huge amount. ive been qouted £700 to ship plus around 400e's port clearance.

does anyone know if this driving in from the north has been relaxed because that would be a stunning driving adventure from the uk???

anyway hi to all, will be chatting alot i hope.

As posted many times before, bringing a car in through the north is not something you should do. You would never be able to register it in the Republic as for all intents and purposes it had been smuggled in.

I don’t think that this is actually correct. As Tim has said, technically you still commit an illegal act under RoC laws by entering the island through a port in the north, but EU legislation takes priority over national laws, so you can no longer be prosecuted for doing this. This was established in a test case a few years ago.

There is no problem, beyond bureaucratic ones, bringing a car by ferry from Turkey to TRNC. You see British cars quite frequently. There should also be no problem taking a car registered and tax paid in an EU country across the Green Line - the EU guaranteeing free movement for all its citizens. There should also be no problem in registering your car in RoC ………… but I wouldn’t do it unless you fancy being part of a test case in the courts, both RoC and probably European ones too. Even then it is likely that the GC officials would 'lose your application'.

You could always pause and reregister your car in TRNC, and then you would have no trouble at all at the Green Line!
