As Australia doesn't have nuclear weapons and obviously can not feed its own people, the remarks about Australia's ability to attack Turkey can not be taken seriously

 In fact Cyprus CAN attack Turkey but without an aircraft carrier Australia cannot!

What do you call these then....

http://www.navy.gov.au/HMAS_Collins

The Collins Class submarine is the most advance conventional sub in the world.

Also, the F111 is a strategic bomber which can strike anywhere in the world with USAF, RAF or RAAF B707 or KC30T air to air refuelling.

Add to this the 2 Aircraft Carriers that are about to enter service in 2012.

YOU ALSO SEEM TO FORGET THAT AUSTRALIA HAS 2 BASES IN CYPRUS -DHEKELIA AND RAF AKROTIRI.

The RAAF uses RAF Akrotiri almost weekly...

Get a life. No one is pitting Australia against Turkey.

The only clout that Turkey has is her vital strategic position for US operations in Iraq. Turkey is not a regional power, especially when you compare her capabilities against the IAF. Even the HAF has a slight edge in capability with the M2000 and A7 Corsair.

Both Greece and Turkey lack a defence industry and are not capable of fighting a major conflict for more than a month.

No one ever said anything about attacking Turkey.

We were talking about the Turkey's "regional power" credentials.

Based on the facts so far, Turkey is not a regional power because:
1) It does not have a serious defence industry,
2) It does not have an adequate strategic attack capability, and
3) It cannot sustain a major conflict for more than a month.

And most importantly, Israel has the capability of crippling the TAF within a matter of days.

Australia was bought into the discussion, as it does have the capability of sustaining long range operations over an extended period of time. Australia also has the capability of crippling the TAF within days.

As for the British SBAs, you should know that they play a vital role within Australia's Intelligence Gathering umbrella, and these intelligence posts are linked to other such facilities in the Asia Pacific, such as the Australian and US joint facility at Pine Gap.

Bafidi it was you who started to compare Australia's capabilities to that of Turkey's, you suggested that Australia had the sufficient resources to attack. Any sort of attack could not be more than a mere "hit and run". On another note, I see that you a persistently comparing air attacking capabilities and basically not taking anything else into account. You cannot control the ground from the air, can you? When it comes to land forces Turkey is incomparable to anyone in the region.

I was only highlighting the well known fact that countries such as Israel, and Australia are regional powers in their own right, whereas Turkey is not.

I was not discussing the possibility of Australia ever attacking Turkey, because as you know, the 2 nations are fairly strong allies.

You will also note that all I ever mentioned was the theoretical destruction of Turkey's infrastructure, and not the unrealistic possibility of a full scale ground invasion.

He's right, for once VP is spot on. No one came to our rescue because of Turkey's might and US alliance. Next time you play the victim card VP I'll remind you of this admission.
