Turkey - A Regional Power according to Wikipedia!!!!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Bananiot » Fri Jan 02, 2009 11:14 pm

Well, whether we like it or not Turkey is a regional power. The idea that Turkey is surrounded by enemies is not realistic because we have all recently watched countries like Iraq and Armenia trying hard to improve relationships with Turkey.

Greece has made great strides in this direction too, despite the occupation of Cyprus. In fact, Turkey has huge influence on most neighbouring countries. These include Albania, Bosnia, Macedonia, South Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Turkmenistan, North China and North Greece.

Only people blinded by bigotry cannot see this.

The phrase “Regional Power” is far too relative to be taken too seriously… ie: Turkey borders with Iran; a short and mid range missile designer and manufacturer in a joint program with N.Korea, and just across the Black sea is Ukraine having one of the world’s largest nuclear fleets docked there, and east of the Mediterranean there lies Egypt with enough men and hardware to match that of Turkey.

As for “superpower” that’s a totally inappropriate label for a country like Turkey.

You'd think that something like that would be based on fact not a "vote"!

As Australia doesn't have nuclear weapons and obviously can not feed its own people, the remarks about Australia's ability to attack Turkey can not be taken seriously

 In fact Cyprus CAN attack Turkey but without an aircraft carrier Australia cannot!

I can also tell you that Australia alone, with a defence force of 50,000 regulars is also more than capable of destroying Turkey's airports and cripple Turkey's Air Force in a matter of days. And that is from the other side of the world (F111).

So Turkey is definitely no "regional power". That is what we are discussing here.

What absolute and total nonsense!

The F111 has a combat radius of a bit over 2000 KM, tell us as the RAAF does not have Air-to-Air refuelling capability how the Aardvarks would get to Turkey and back? assuming you got over flight rights to Iran, Iraq and Syria!

KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport are due to enter service in 2009. The first is to be delivered in February and will replace the ageing B707 tankers.

The first of 2 aircraft carriers will also enter service in 2012.
