Turkey - A Regional Power according to Wikipedia!!!!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Looks to me like another conspiracy forum.

The introdution reads "Richard Broinowski, former diplomat and author of the 2003 study Fact or Fission - the Truth about Australia's Nuclear Ambitions, writes that "in his call for a 'full-blooded' nuclear debate, Prime Minister Howard probably doesn't wish to see such a taboo subject raised."

But, says Broinowski,

"for more than three decades Australian politicians and military, scientific and cabinet officials conducted a campaign to persuade the government of the day to acquire or develop nuclear weapons. The fact is that Australia has the resources and technology to develop its own nuclear weapons."
The views expressed in this article are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the Nautilus Institute. Readers should note that Nautilus seeks a diversity of views and opinions on contentious topics in order to identify common ground."

That does not mean that we have not got any access to nuclear ballistic missiles. You should ask our ANZUS partners as well as NATO.

That is not what I meant. I am positive that the US would not want Turkey to have a nuclear capability or to have access.

You were probably not even born when Australia started testing nuclear bombs.

Turkey has nuclear grade uranium in her own soil. She has the know how and technology to build them, so what are you on about paphiti? Having nuclear weapons doesn't make you a Regional Power! What makes Turkey important is her strategic location and alliance with the West. In a region which is basically the energy hub of the world.

He started talking about GDP and people starving and now NUclear power...I am sure that he has no idea where he is going with this....

Zanny boy,

I was talking about Turkey and her regional power credentials an analysing Turkey's very high proportion of people living below the poverty line. :)

Re Bafitis....As you people keep saying...Turkey is a third world country (Your words not mine) so poverty should go hand in hand.....What you should be concerned about is this new world that you are part of (According to Miltiades)...You should have ZERO poverty.........What is your explanation of this?????Why are people in the "RoC" and Greece in such positions..... 8)

I can assure you that there are many things within Australia's arsenal which are not known. You should read up about our joint facilities such as Pine Gap.

Also understand that Australia has maintained a nuclear delivery capability since the late 60s. Australia has been capable of building a nuclear device for over 4 decades. There was also a plan to actually deliver 100 nuclear weapons to Australia in the early 70s, but Australia backed out at the last moment...or so we are told....The strategic delivery system is still maintained. WHY? I leave that one for you.

You should ask Miltiades. I did not say such a thing, Just want to analyse how a third world country like Turkey manages to become a regional power when there is another country in the region that is much more worthy of the title.

In the case of Cyprus, it is mainly immigrants, some of which are even illegal immigrants, who are below the poverty line for various reasons.

It is you guys that changed the subject (i.e. to nuclear weapons)

I was quite happy talking about the 13,731,526 starving Turks and Turkey's regional power status.. I wonder what Israel has to say about that..

Paphitis
No, but you would expect a "Regional Power" to be able to at least feed their people, have an adequate industrial output or have a strategic nuclear capability, such as India and China have
First mention of nuclear weapons on this thread.

I think you are more than a little confused.

I am sorry but I did not see anywhere it said that Turkey is THE major power in the region????

You tell my why these were bought:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=foI7S_nI_bA

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hMCaqfW_Z ... re=related

The above aircraft were bought to provide a strategic nuclear delivery capability.

I've been trying to tell you that in order to be considered a "regional power", you need to have a strategic attack capability.

The RAAF is able to launch an attack on Turkey from Australia, whilst the TAF does not have the same capability. Australia with a mere 50,000 active personell is able to destroy every Turkish airfield within a matter of days, if it needed to. Israel has similar capabilities, and is also considered a regional power.

Turkey is not even equipped with the ordnance to fight a major conflict for more than 2-3 weeks..

Australia, if you do your research is considered a regional power, whereas Turkey is not.
