GAMBIA: “WE WILL RECOGNIZE THE TRNC”

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

GAMBIA: “WE WILL RECOGNIZE THE TRNC”

GAMBIA: “WE WILL RECOGNIZE THE TRNC”
Gambia, a nation in western Africa with a population of about 1.6 million, yesterday stated that it wanted to become the second country in the world to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). During TRNC Foreign Minister Serdar Denktas’s official visit to Gambia, Gambian President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh said, “There is no reason for us not to recognize you. You can trust us.” Stating that he was very proud that Denktas made his first official visit to Africa in Gambia, he added, “Just tell us what you want to do and we will do it. In addition, we are also ready to establish relations in every area, including the economy.” Denktas added that the TRNC was ready to give scholarship to Gambian students at the TRNC’s six universities. /Hurriyet/

Now this is a very interesting development

Yes, it is interesting, but I think you'd see Cyprus retaliating against Gambia through both Commonwealth channels and the EU. If Cyprus threatens to delay EU aid to Gambia, I think that might focus their minds a bit more. Also remember we've had countries say things like this before... remember Azerbaijan anyone? Until they actually say, we recognise you as an independent and sovereign state, words don't really count for all that much.

Infact Turkey dont work much for the recognise of TRNC and I dont think TRNC have enough power for doing it alone.

That's an interesting development by The Gambia. I think the Gambian government has some deals with Turkey. I have already known some Turkish soldiers recruiting Gambians and there were some extraordinary relationship btw Turkey and the Gambia, but still I am scratching my head and trying to figure out what lies beneath? Are we going to see many Gambians in TRNC now?

That would be the only reason why Gambia is making such noises, if the TRNC gives their students scholarships... basically it's Gambia exploiting the TRNC's weakness for their own ends (and there aren't many countries weaker than Gambia!)... I know what I'd tell them to do...

Damn TRNC doesn't give scholarships to the Turkish Cypriot students studying in 3rd party countries (i.e. other than TRNC and Turkey), but will be giving aid to Gambians!!! We have a saying in Turkish: "Blind and deaf welcome eachother".

They don't? I guess this is because they want to encourage people to use the one's in the north. Is EMU at Famagusta any good? Thinking of contacting them to see if I can visit for a month or so to do some research... any info welcome...
