How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

magikthrill if you were a TC what would you want from the south to build trust and belief that GC genuinely want a partnership in a united Cyprus with no hidden agendas to reduce TCs to a minority status in our own country?

to accept my wishes that do not violate theirs.

if my wishes violate the other community's then there is no genuine will to a partnership.

So there wont be a partnership.

Ah my lovely country, you will become more irritiated with this island (Forever)

Question is: has Gambia officially recognised the TRNC yet? Fine words from the President, but it seems he's all mouth and no trousers...

Murtaza, I know how things work in most African countries (South Africa excluded). If the President decrees something, it becomes immediate policy... it would therefore be quite easy for the Gambian President to immediately recognise the TRNC... but we all know why he isn't going to do that... it's the same noises we always hear from statesmen who interact with TRNC leaders, i.e. "We support you", "You deserve recognition", "We intend to lobby for your recognition at X organisation" etc. etc. Simple fact is that unless one of the world's big fishes decides to jump ship and recognise the TRNC, the minnows will always back off for fear of being eaten.

If Gambia recognizes TRNC, I'll have my next summer vacation in Gambia..I always wanted to visit Gambia anyway. I would be so proud with the Gambia stamp in my TRNC passport :-) Who knows maybe we'll start having Gambian settlers soon...it would be a nice change, don't you think? :-)

If you have a Gambia stamp on your passport, I'm sure the US immigration authorities would be even more confused

Cyprus says no Gambian intention to recognise puppet regime

Nicosia, May 27 (CNA) - The Gambia reaffirms its respect to obligations deriving from international law, Cypriot Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said today, commenting on reports that the western African country intends to recognise the puppet regime in the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus.

Responding to questions during his daily briefing, the Spokesman said that no official statement was issued from the government of The Gambia, noting that all necessary contacts took place by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus as well as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
