CELEBRATIONS for the island’s accession to Europe will begin on Friday April 30 and continue on May 1 in towns across Cyprus, with the main attractions in the heart of the capital Nicosia.
Six giant screens will be positioned in Eleftheria Square on Friday night to transmit the musical talent of Cypriot and foreign artists on stage. Amongst the artists will be Cypriot diva Anna Vissi.
The four-hour concert will begin at 8pm with performances by Michalis Violaris, Koulis Theodorou, Marietta Mitsidou, Demetris Fanis, Michalis Terlikkas, Evdokia Kadi and Turkish Cypriot singers Umut Albayrak, Zelis Senot and Ersen Sururi, as well as various bands who will play Armenian and Maronite music.
But the one entertainer who is expected to draw in the crowds is Cypriot-born Anna Vissi, who will take centre stage to sing a series of her greatest hits as well as songs from her album Oh Kypros dedicated to her homeland.
