I wonder why?
Did he commit any crimes?

I forget the details now but let's just say that the few GCs who fled to the "TRNC" over the years, didn't do so because they thought it to be a prosperous and democratic place!

I fail to get the relevance of this statement to "Tony was banned from all Cyprus media". Could you please emphasize the link more clearly?

Do a search using his name to get tons of material, and if you like ask him directly. He's a member here.

Thanks. I should do that.

I have another (probably naive) question: ENOSIS seems to be the official policy of successive Cypriot governments in the past. When was that reversed and which Cypriot government advocated full independence for the first time?

The UK House of Commons Select Committee on Foreign Affairs reviewed the Cyprus question in 1987 [123] and reported unanimously that, “Although the Cyprus Government now claims to have been seeking to “operate the 1960 Constitution modified to the extent dictated by the necessities of the situation” this claim ignores the fact that both before and after the events of December 1963 the Makarios Government continued to advocate the cause of ENOSIS [annexation to Greece] and actively pursued the amendment of the Constitution and the related treaties to facilitate this ultimate objective”.

The Committee continued : “Moreover in June 1967 the Greek Cypriot legislature unanimously passed a resolution in favour of ENOSIS, in blatant contravention of the 1960 Treaties and Constitution.” [124]

Professor Ernst Forsthoff, the neutral President of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Cyprus until 1963 told Die Welt on 27 December 1963 “Makarios bears on his shoulders the sole responsibility of the recent tragic events. His aim is to deprive the Turkish community of their rights.” In an interview with UPI press agency on 30 December 1963 he said: “All this happened because Makarios wanted to remove all constitutional rights from the Turkish Cypriots.”

How about you tell us how many Turkish troops does it take to wipe out 200,000 people from their homes?

[Truth] is, everybody lies, that is except the Greeks and the GCs of course. That should be obvious to those who are above the age of 5 and still believe in Santa Clause.

It was the UK, USA, CIA, OIC, T, TC, FBI, The men form Mars and the Federation of Universe Against Greeks and GCs who started the war to divide Cyprus, Greeks/GCs are completely innocent and their wish for enosis had nothing to do with the Cyprus Problem AT ALL.

Get your facts straight, OK.

This is rather a sad consequence rather than being the beginning of Cypriot history. Isn't it?

So far on the CF all we've ever seen is TCs lying. Here's another such case regarding Dr Ernst Forsthoff mentioned by the newbie above...

Maybe I'm naive now, but Enosis was never the official, nor un-official policy, of ANY Cypriot government, let alone "successive" governments.

Hi DT,

I gather you are a Professor. I hope you have read the book Democracy at Gunpoint by Andreas Papandreu. He says:

"…Incidents followed, until we were at the brink of war. Makarios visited Athens in early April (1964). He and my father, who was handling personally all the aspects of the Cyprus problem, reached complete agreement…This was my father’s proposal, and Makarios accepted it. A clandestine operation then began on a huge scale of nightly shipments of arms and troops, of ‘volunteers’ who arrived in Cyprus in civilian clothes and then joined their ‘Cypriot’ units. The process was not completed until the middle of the summer. No less than 20,000 officers and men, fully equipped, were shipped to Cyprus."
