Tymbou Airport for "sale"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Tymbou was a 100% Greek Cypriot village and all its surrounding territory belonged to the local villagers. I happen to be the LEGAL OWNER of land that was just a kilometer away from what was once a small ex-British strip of tarmac right next to Tymbou.

Today, I understand this airport you’ve named “ercan” has been extended way beyond the small size of what the British were using in the 50’s, so it’s therefore safe for me to assume that part of this illegal airport officially belongs to me.

Therefore, as one of the LEGAL OWNERS of land used by “ercan” I DO NOT appreciate you making such dumb declarations.

GR,

As soon as you know which private company wants to take over the airport, be sure to let them know, that they are buying part of your land without your permission and that you will sue their butts in EU courts and attach a lien on anything that they may own in other countries.

Easy to throw out a "meaningful" comment, a little different when one has to back it up!

Can't be easy for all those TCs trying to find legitimate reasons to substantiate their false claims, now that the proof is in the eating of the proverbial pudding or something about all coming out in the wash :?

Hurriyet is talking crap again....Turkish Cyprus and Greek Cyprus and 2 million passengers a year going through the airport. It was only 950,000 passengers previous year, numbers given few month ago.

I don't think this has anything to do with "privatization" but rather "capitalizing" instead.

"An adviser to the EU's top court says a ruling against the British owners of a holiday home in Turkish-controlled northern Cyprus should be recognised"

Since the above legal opinion by the EU courts, everyone in the north is going to try and unload/sell anything that is GC owned to foreigners and run with the money and let the foreigners get stuck with the consequences later on. I do not think anyone will be interested in buying the airport if the land is owned by GC's and they have not been compensated for, even if the north can make the claim that the land used to build the airport falls under the "Eminent Domain / Expropriation" rules, which is something legitimate governments can use.

Bill C & Oracle

Good Morning. The Helvaci family (Turkish Cypriots) from Larnaca own the land which forms part of Larnaca airport and are seeking compensation through the courts. No deal can be struck for compensation until a peace deal is done apparently. So around in circles we go, yet again!

It seems that Asil Nadir was involved in another "International Airport" (Gecitkale) investment that was going to employ thousands of "trnc" locals but he fell out with them before the project go off the ground (sorry!) and is now going to sue.

It is very legal for any legitimate government to use "Eminent Domain / Expropriation" rules in order to build public projects and pay the owner the market value at the time of the purchase. The only fear I have for the TC's who owned part of the land used to build Larnaca airport, is that the legal owner will be paid eventually to what his land was worth when the airport was built and his money kept in some kind of an escrow since then. Whether the same rules will apply in the north due to the non recognition of the "trnc and it's government", whether or not the "Eminent Domain / Expropriation" rules apply is another matter. My guess is, they will not apply, therefore what ever GC land was used when building Ercan airport, and peace is reached, the compensation will be made at the market rate of the land at that time. If so, I can see a lot of TC's losing out financially if their land was built on in the south with public projects since 1963, but mostly after 1974.

You have "rights" go chase them instead of complaining about land which has been reappropriated just like the TC land used to build Larnaca airport, you have to look at it from both sides of the divide, life goes on however much you feel the TRNC does not exsist on paper, its a reality which stares in the face every day and has done so for the past 34 years.
