I was trying to find the thread where Halil made several pages of words that pretty much was the same in Turkish and Greek which is commonly used in Cyprus by the Cypriots, which there were hundreds of such words. Perhaps Halil can post those Turkish-Greek words one more time so to shut Doesntknow for once and for all on this subject.

Kikapu
You have to accept there are far too many words used by GC's in Cyprus which is not Greek and clearly originate from Turkish language.
Even the name sheftalia (seftali) has no meaning in any language except Turkish..(even tho the dish Sheftali is unknown by Turks in Turkey)

Another one who agrees with Greek thievery and tries to hide the fact that what the Greeks/GCs are doing is promoting Cyprus as a "Greek island" by claiming everything is Greek, even the Tukrish language.

Do you mean words/phrases like, " hade re poushto-pezevengis". The Greek speakers can have it with my blessing.

When peoples have lived together for so long, what did you expect. Do you want to do what the French have done with their language?

This topic was discussed a few times before. Being new you might get unstuck, so beware.

I am not surprised you jumped in to defend your Greek friends Deniz, I'm just surprised that it took you so long to find this thread and still wondering what else you are prepared to let them steal from us.

You can have your Greek friends with my blessing.

I will be friends with anybody who will call me a friend. You should try it. It will do you good. That does not imply that I lose my Turkish Cypriotness. If you had not noticed, there are people in Cyprus trying to forge an 'everlasting' peace sttlement. Without forging friendships, how do you expect to reach some sort of compromise. Compromise is what we need and from both sides.

Trouble with you Deniz is that you don't care or give a damn what they take from you and what you give them as long as they call you a "friend".

The difference between their "friendship" and yours is that you are prepared to give as much as they are prepared to take or steal. One way or another, you don't care.

I dont know where you live, but I dont care to know anyway. You need to get out a bit and learn.

First Denis, you need to learnd that you can't buy friends by giving them everything they want to steal.

Second, they are not just stealing from you personally and not just from Turkish Cypriots either, they are stealing from Turks/Muslims all over the world. Doner Kebab, Shish Kebab, Kebab, Sheftali are all Turkish/Muslim words used by all Turks/Muslims not just the TCs.

Have a good day.even a Happy New year.

You have a happy new year too and try to choose your "friends" more carefully next year.

You carry on with your diatribes and stop telling me who to chose as friends.

I said 'beware' so you dont fall into any potholes on the way. That is not siding with one or the other. I have seen many fools making even greater fools of themselves here on boboth sides of the divide. I simply dont want to see this happen again.

Take care. Gaza mubare olsun.

As a young boy in Cyprus I often remember hearing the phrase " Alah-pelasinouversi ate gamoto !!
Also playing tavli you commonly came across such words as doubeshi , pir iki , dorchia , iki pir !! All Greek words no doubt !!
Any one remembers the phrase " SHIKKI ME " !!
The fact is we lived side by side for hundreds of years , we interacted and copied each others colloquialisms !

Miltiades my friend
There is no such language as Turkish Cypriot..we just use a bastardized version of Ottoman Turkish language with some Latin some Greek and some Arabic words.

My father was a great tavli player and I don't remember him using any of those phrases ... maybe "Aman" or "Ella mana mou"

Maybe you were born into a Turkish family Miltiades .....

Why don’t you post credible links that prove the origin of Doner, Shish, Kebab, and Sheftali, instead of expecting everyone to just take your word for it?

The only sheftali Turks from Turkey know grows on trees they have no idea what sheftali as we know is and they laugh their heads off when they learn sheftali is a type of kebab..

Ricco won't be very happy when he discovers that most of the above originate from Syria and the Lebanon.

I promise not to say anything about 'Turkish Delight'.
