President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that he has repeatedly asked for the opening of the Yesilirmak border crossing so that the Turkish Cypriots could go to Erenkoy, which is a part of the Turkish Republic of northern Cyprus, but added that the Greek Cypriot side has not replied yet.
Speaking to the TAK newsageny today, President Talat referred to the Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Hristofias’s interview published in the Greek cypriot press claiming that the Yesilirmak Border Gate was not opened due to the military not giving permission for crossings.
President Talat stressed that they had asked the opening of the Yesilirmak border gate together with the other border crossings.
‘In Pile serious problems were being faced during crossings, that’s why we had asked for a road to be built between Pile and Yigitler. We also wanted the simultaneous opening of the Yesilirmak border gate so that free passage could be established to Erenkoy which is a part of the TRNC land’, he added.
President Talat repeated that the Greek Cypriot side is still refusing to respond to this request adding that the Greek Cypriot leaders allegation that the military had not given permission for such crossings is far from being realistic.
‘These claims are totally made up, far from the truth and have nothing to do with the realities’, he added.
