Are you casting doubt on the proposed age of the machine (perhaps it just needs some new batteries)? Or as a Choirokitian computer engineer are you disputing the geographical origin and suggesting your forefathers designed and built it?

Another line of evidence on dating the Antikythera mechanism:
It is probable that the Antikythera mechanism was not unique. Cicero, writing in the 1st century BC, mentions an instrument "recently constructed by our friend Posidonius, which at each revolution reproduces the same motions of the sun, the moon and the five planets."

Thanks for that T. It was fascinatingly interesting.

As far as dating goes, the context of the ship-wreck in which it was found gives us the age. Standard practise in archeology - you don't have to resort to carbon dating every time.

A remarkable device that seems to appear out of nowhere with no pre-cursor. Something that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Enlightenment.

What also really excited me on the video was a possible connection with Syracuse and we all know who used to work there.
