There is no common CYPRIOT language because both communities share different cultures. Furthermore the vast majority of TC's do not wish to be part of any alliance with the GC's. Byron , I'm pretty consistent and crystal clear as to what I'm and the rest of other G/Cs are as against what they perceive they are.
I'm a G/C whose ethnicity is unquestionably Cypriot and not Greek , a Greek is a native of Greece or a descendant of Greek ancestry. Since I'm not a native of Greece and since I'm not a descendant of Greek ancestry then , just like the English speaking peoples of the world who share religion and language with the ENGLISH , but are natives of their respective nations , New Zealand Australia etc etc.
I believe that the indigenous people of Cyprus , either G/Cs , T/Cs , Armenians , Maronites etc are first and foremost CYPRIOTS.
Byron , did you know that the Cypriot people are the only people in the universe who question their "nativeness" , the Maltese do not and neither do any other people the world over.
Even our .... potatoes are commonly referred to as Cypriot potatoes why on earth should I or you be anything else other than the product of the indigenous race , that of the Cypriot.

English is the official language, and native language of most people, in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. Yet the citizens of these countries do not look towards England as the "motherland". National identity does not have to be based on language - French, German, Italian and Romansch speaking Swiss display intense loyalty towards their own country. Language is only the prime determiner of national identity if people choose to make it so.

A bit rich considering that the previous Australian Government was arguably the most successful and popular administrations in Australian History. If he was a laughing stock, then why did the Australian people keep re-electing the same Government over 12 years? The Howard, Downer, and Costello Government would not have been referred as "The A Team" by the popular electorate and media for no reason. The strong fiscal policies of this Government actually turned a 14% unemployment rate to 4%, a 100 Billion Dollar budget deficit to a strong surplus, annual growth of 4%, wiped out Australia's foreign debt, and virtually turned all Australian investors into paper millionaires.

As for his views on Cyprus, I could actually tell you what they are, but I won't. Just be sure that he does know who is right and who is wrong, but above all he will conduct himself in a very professional and fair way. His record speaks for itself, and the Australian Electorate did re-elect him time and time again. He held his electorate for 25 years until he resigned in order to become UN envoy to Cyprus. He also played a crucial role in the Liberation and Independence of East Timor.
