Are student allowed to work

Postby asiftahir » Mon Dec 22, 2008 6:45 am

Will anybody tell me about the part time work for student. Can student work only during the vacations? What type of work they can find and how much they can earn per hour. I am from Pakistan and coming to Larnaca for IT study.

Regards

Hi Asif. The rules have recently been relaxed and students are allowed to work for 24 hours per week. This however is limited to some particular types of jobs. For example, packaging, deliveries, farming, cleaning etc. These rules are not strict, you could say that you work as a kitchen staff but be a waiter. Nobody will check or even do anything if they find out. However, to get ANY job you must be enrolled into a college/university and present a letter from your school to the social insurance office in order to get your work permit. It's a pretty easy process.

I can't claim to be well informed on this matter, but I was speaking to a young Nepali who is a post-graduate student in Cyprus and he said that he had two jobs; one as a science teacher and one as a lab technician. So you may well be right in saying that the rules are not strictly enforced.

What I know is that you have to make tests for hepatitis and some other deceases when you come to Cyprus. Ask your embassy about it.

Some other "deceases"? If he is dead, he will have trouble getting on the plane!

Work as much as you like.
Rest as much as you like.
If people employ you, then take the job
and work as hard as you can to satisfy your boss
Dont think about the hours
