You don't call what's happening in Greek South Cyprus "Institutionalized Racism"?

YOU, the worst Greek racist in this forum?

First of all there is no Greek South Cyprus ... only a racist Turk that condones the racist segregation of 200,000 GCs from their homes and lands of many generations would use such terminology.

Secondly nothing that you have presented has any semblance of institutionalised racism pertaining to the RoC ... So go tell it on the Mountain! ... to a few Kurds that you love so much, you fascist fool!

Your police is doing abosolutely nothing about racism in your own South Cyprus, foreigners are discriminated against in jobs, housing, employment and other aspects of life and you are trying to tell us that institutionalised racism does not exist in the Greek South Cyprus?

Why am I not surprised that the worst raicst of the CF forum would take her racist bretheren, including the GCs police, under her personal protection!

Really! Show me where our police have failed to act on incidents of genuine racism. In the case you have posted, the matter is not finished yet. So don't wet your pants waiting for that one incident where a serious case of racism has been ignored, against the wishes of those involved.

On the other hand, please tell me if you know what has happened to those two Dutch tourists, that were last seen, and not heard of since, at the hands of your police .....

Oh BTW ... call me anti-Turkish all you like, but not racist, because that minimises the unique position in which I place the Turks. If only it were a "simple", ordinary case of racism, but I cannot distinguish such "racial" groups. The only outsiders I see are those that behave like Turks and my hate for them is in proportion to the evil they have inflicted on my country and its people, and secondly to other nations of the otherwise lovely peaceful world ....

Admit that Turks are rather strange misfits in the ethos of humanity ....

What is your police doing about this? Don't you have Military Police to deal with this kind of lawlessness?

Turkish troops turned guns on UN commander

By Constantine Markides

TURKISH forces pointed weapons at UNFICYP troops – including the UNFICYP force commander – who were inspecting an illegal Turkish military construction within the buffer zone two months ago, the UN confirmed yesterday.

According to reports, Turkish troops began building an illegal military post within the buffer zone on August 16 in the area of Louroutzina, claiming that the structure was necessary to monitor the movement of illegal immigrants. Several days later, UNFICYP demanded that the Turkish troops dismantle the structure, but the construction continued unabated.

Yesterday’s Phileleftheros reported that on August 31, armed Turkish troops, in open violation of agreements made since 1974, asked an UNFICYP patrol that had come to inspect the area to leave. UNFICYP left and returned several times, each time bringing higher-ranking officers, culminating in the arrival by helicopter of the UNFICYP Force Commander. The Turkish troops then set off a state of alarm and aimed their guns at the UNFICYP force commander and his escorts.

UNFICYP spokesman Brian Kelly confirmed to the Cyprus Mail yesterday that Turkish troops “pointed weapons at the UN personnel” while the inspection was underway, noting that “the Force Commander was among those present”
According to Kelly, The UNFICYP Force Commander then met with the head of the Turkish forces to discuss the incident, where “apologies were conveyed to the [UNFICYP] Force Commander for the misunderstanding.”

The UN also lodged an official complaint “concerning both the buffer zone violation and the incident”, which then led to the removal of the construction materials from inside the buffer zone.

“However, not withstanding these welcome actions, the Turkish forces persisted in erecting a structure close to the Buffer Zone perimeter, in itself a ‘spirit’ violation of the status quo”, Kelly said. “The building in question has since been partially dismantled in response to UNFICYP’s protest.”

Kelly said that UNFICYP “continues to assert its mandate thoroughly by monitoring the buffer zone systemically and rigorously and by regular patrols.”

After the 2004 April referendum, the UN decided to cut UNFICYP personnel from 1,250 to 860.

Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides called the violation of the Green Line by the Turkish troops “characteristic” in its “lack of all respect towards the agreements that have been made since 1974”, also referring to the “threatening armed provocation” by the Turkish troops towards the UNFICYP head.

Chrysostomides said that the Cyprus government has filed all necessary complaints and will continue to do so, seeing that “the issue is not considered closed”.
In the last month, Turkish fighter jets and surveillance jets have violated Cyprus air space on two occasions in response to the National Guard’s decision to stage the annual Nikiforos military exercises after a four-year hiatus.

You Turks are the last people to be talking about racism, since you ethnically cleansed 200,000 indigenous inhabitants from their lands. And then to have the cheek to pull a gun and point it at a UNFICYP Commander who had the audacity to protest against your illegalities, really say's a lot about you Turks.

The huge number of migrants appealing for help to NGOs, reports
in the media, the Ombudsman, ECRI (Council of Europe), RAXEN
(EU Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia) etc., indicate
growing discrimination and racism. Migrants in general are victims of institutional
racism, stereotyping and stigmatisation and are used as scapegoats for many social
and economic problems (unemployment, crime, breakup of marriages etc.)
They work under worse conditions and receive lower wages than locals.
State
housing policies apply only to Cypriots. Widespread discrimination on grounds of
nationality, as provided in law, hinders migrants from benefiting from the majority of
social rights otherwise provided to Cypriots.
Domestic workers are particularly vulnerable; their employment contracts are frequently
violated and they fall victim of abuse, sexual harassment, rape and violence.
Even worse treatment is inflicted on female workers - victims of trafficking
and those involved in prostitution. Seasonal workers have no social insurance,
live on farms in inhumane conditions and are often deported without getting paid.
The migration model followed forces many migrants to become ‘illegal’, deprived
of all basic rights. Police wage campaigns of mass arrests based on colour and
detention conditions are inadequate. In the last couple of years, two ‘illegal’ migrants
were actually shot by police officers in their effort to escape immigration
controls. One died. Despite this there is no regularisation policy. A negligible
number of asylum seekers are granted refugee status, and deportations, even of
persons married to Cypriots or EU citizens, are frequent and in many cases illegal.
Asylum seekers don’t have sufficient means of subsistence. There is only one
reception centre, which is isolated and totally inadequate. Pontiac residents are
victims of racist comments and suffer exclusion even though the majority are European
citizens. Muslims face degrading treatment, as a result of suspicion of involvement
in terrorist activities and are seen as potential Turkish allies.
Other groups experiencing racism are religious minorities such as Jehova’s Witnesses
and a group referred to as ‘gypsies’, whose way of life resembles that of
the Roma.
whO is ExpERiENCiNG RACism:
thE situAtiON iN CypRus
A number of offences relevant to combating racism and intolerance
are in place i.e. incitement to racial hatred, participation in organisations
promoting racial discrimination, public expression of racially
insulting ideas. These provisions, however, have never been used.
There is no provision penalising common offences - with a racist
nature - as specific offences, or explicitly enabling the racist motives
of the offender to be taken into account as an aggravating factor in
sentencing. Racism as such is not penalised.
The Race Equality Directive was transposed in January 2004. The law
basically copies the Directive and also criminalises racially discriminatory
behaviour. The only implementing measure adopted is the appointment
of the Ombudsman as an extra judicial authority to examine
complaints for racially motivated discrimination, both in the public and
private sectors, as well as the authority responsible for conducting
independent surveys and publishing reports related to such
discrimination. Although the law foresees the possibility for positive
action, no positive action was taken by the state up until now.

That is not an official source; it is not backed up with statistics and it makes sweeping generalisations that apply to ALL cases of immigration control which by its very nature, is subjected to discrimination/racial accusations ...

So this is a pitiful attempt at trying to point the finger at the way the RoC conducts specific cases of racism, which are brought up by individuals.

The RoC record is as healthy as any other in Europe, for treating individual cases brought to it regarding racism .... and nothing you have provided has contradicted this.

Now about those missing Dutch tourists at the hands of the Turks .... any news?

Report 2008
Human Rights in REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS
News and Publications
Report 2007Report 2008

Foreign nationals, including migrants and asylum-seekers, were held in detention for unacceptably long periods and in poor conditions without access to a judicial or other independent review. Some reported being beaten by police upon arrest or by guards once detained. Asylum-seekers reported a number of irregularities in the asylum procedure that could have jeopardized their applications or their families at home. An organization supporting and advising migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers was the target of a racist attack and its chairperson charged in connection with its fundraising activities.

Detention and ill-treatment of foreign nationals
Foreign nationals were held in prolonged administrative detention without the opportunity for appeal before a judicial or similar independent body, in violation of the right not to be arbitrarily deprived of one’s liberty. In late September and early October detainees in Block 10 of Nicosia Central Prison, which served as a police detention centre for rejected asylum-seekers who were under deportation orders, protested against the length and conditions of their detention. Several had been held for over 30 months.Interviewees reported that the conditions in which they were detained were poor and that guards had subjected them to cruel and degrading treatment, including refusing them food and water during the protest. Several alleged that they had been ill-treated by police upon arrest or by guards in detention.

•The authorities attempted to deport a Sierra Leonean national originally arrested for illegal stay in February 2005. His application for asylum, still pending when his detention began, had been rejected without him being informed or given the opportunity to challenge the decision. At the end of the year he was still in detention.

•An Iranian national stated that he had been beaten by police upon arrest, then again by guards at the Central Prison whilst on a hunger strike protest in 2006, and a third time during the September-October protests. He stated that following the first beating in August 2005, he had developed a swelling on his head and problems focusing and balancing, and that he had been denied permission for an operation recommended by the doctor who examined him. He also stated that he had previously been detained for nine months in the Lykavitos police station where he was not allowed out into the yard, his cell was overcrowded and there were no adequate hygiene facilities.
By the end of 2007, no response had been received from the Cypriot authorities to Amnesty International’s letter expressing concerns.

Human rights defenders
In April the European Network Against Racism reported that the headquarters of its branch in Cyprus, the non-governmental organization Action for Equality, Support and Anti-racism (Kinisi yia Isotita, Styrixi, Antiratsismo – KISA) had been sprayed with swastikas and nationalistic slogans. KISA offers support and legal advice to migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers in Cyprus. Its chairperson faced prosecution in October for the second time in five years on criminal charges relating to the organization’s fundraising, in what may have been an attempt to hinder the organization in its work.

Finally, you reveal, that it's your integrity which "doesnmatter".

What an absurd, unfounded statement from the labyrinthine dark recesses of a mind better suited to barrel-scraping, managing to exude nothing but general gripes from disgruntled illegal migrants trying to force the police to let them stay in Cyprus.

How quickly does Turkey process migrant applications?... and how does Turkey cope with its many asylum seekers desperate to stay in a free democracy ...

So :? ....I wonder what has happened to those Dutch tourists the Turks took away for questioning, some months ago ...

You GCs are missing the point here, your excuses are pitiful, this incident backs up our fears about the protection we would get in a united Cyprus where the "majority" GCs have to deal with these cases against TCs. Not one of youhave come forward and acknowledged that this is a reality and that we should address and eradicate this problem with a mixed police force that will take these incidents seriously and act swiftly rather than continue to make the mistakes you all see to support ignore it it will go away, we are not racists, everyone else has these problems so that makes it right....really you GCs sound really pathetic.
