According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT)…

“The population in the district of Nicosia was 310.900 at the end of 2007, in Famagusta 43.700, in Larnaka 131.900, in Limassol 226.700 and in Paphos 76.100.”

It looks like you're 84,200 citizens behind!

Nicosia for sure

Postby JohnmwebbinCyprus » Sun Dec 21, 2008 6:04 am

Living and working is very different than visiting or retiring in.

Nicosia is where many international companies are based and has more people, products and services than any other area, as well as being only 20 minutes from the sea in the north, 30 minutes from Larnaca and 60 minutes from Protaras.

for living and working follow the people and the jobs - Nicosia and Nicosia

p.s I live and work in Nicosia

Most peoples views on Nicosia I think are based either on tourist or shopping visits.

If you are not coming to Cyprus to retire or holiday, earning a living is important.

Paphos has many many retired brits and so if your business involves supplying to the retired this is the place for sure.

If you are looking to earn work hard, enjoy life and earn reasonable
then if you are Russian speaking or in the Shipping industry go to Limassol, otherwise Nicosia.

An as for other places on the island - its a very small island and fuel is quite cheap - i used to commute to Latchi near Polis from Nicosia every week - no drama - everywhere is only a couple of hours away max - and from Nicosia only places west of Limassol are more than 60 minutes away. and the motorways are relatively empty.

Once you decide why you are coming to Cyprus choosing the best area/areas to to live should be quite easy

Well for me, being close to a beach is an important factor. I cannot live without the beach.

I have always been a bit of a water rat. Swim regularly (use to swim every day, even in winter), diving and surfing. So I cannot see myself living in Nicosia. I could only live in Limassol or Paphos, or maybe even some village that is near the coast, and also close to a commercial centre.

Nicosia would be alright if you did not have an active lifestyle, I guess. :? Good for people who just want to go to the pub and smoke cigarrettes, and then visit the Cyprus Stock Exchange for kicks.
