Will the credit crunch in UK hit Cyprus hard

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I can imagine couples the world around dealing with the "world crisis"… :)

Wife: “Darling, have you booked our summer holiday yet?”

Husband: “Of course not! Haven’t you heard???”

Wife: “Heard what?”

Husband: “A couple of US finance giants went down, and even General Motors is laying people off…the whole world is in a crisis!”

Wife: “And what’s that got to do with OUR holiday?”

Husband: “I dunno…”

Good point. Well, if the current situation in Limassol is anything to go by, the place will be packed out with Russians next summer.

 So the question then becomes... "Do I want a Russian holiday?"

Or else, since the Russians (sensible people) have a special soft spot for Limassol, would I prefer to go to an empty Agia Napa instead?

On an old bus no doubt

Developers in the Paphos area are looking at Scandinavia for potential buyers. I'm all in favour of this especially if I get a cracking Swedish bit of totty living next to me :D

LAK - you're right, bring on the Scandinavia buyers. They don't seem to worry about the credit crunch...!!

A few years back we could have , the UK , joined the Euro at 1.48 !!
Oh NO , said the small minded masses of people , we don't want to lose our ... sovereignty   Look at us now , the poorest Europeans , oh well we still have our glorious pound and our sovereignty intact !!

ps. This morning I purchased locally a 200 gram jar of Nescafe gold blend cost me £3.00 , last month in Carefour in Limassol I paid 7.63 euros !!!
Leg of Lamb at £ 4.60 a kg , beat that !!

You wouldn't buy a local leg of lamb for roasting, they are only any good for souvla. NZ Lamb (OK it is frozen, but I don't have a problem with that) is a very similar price to what you mention and excellent quality.

As a frequent visitor to Cyprus I cant help but notice how terribly expensive food and other household requirements have become in Cyprus. I do of course understand that the weakness of Stg makes everything very expensive to us "Charlies" . Milk , Butter , Cheese , Bread , Eggs are perhaps some of the most expensive in Europe .
At the moment the UK appears to be the cheapest nation in Europe on food and household essentials.

That explains why omelettes in Cyprus are so rich. Boom, boom. Forgive me, it's late, and I'm suffering from card-writing depression......

Scandanavian countries are also starting to tighten their belts. Companies like Saab, Nokia, Saska, Fjallraven are all starting to feel the pinch and are reducing their prices and output accordingly.

The manufacturer's of 'Slumberland Mattresses' (and other bedding producers) have recently announced their intentions to either lay off staff or close down altogether.

It would appear that even the price of 'Down' is going up.

The Banks, which are the 'Bed-rock' of all businesses should 'Relax' their rates further in order to 'Cushion' the effects of the recession and 'Bolster' the failing economy.

The 'Stuffing' has been knocked out of many enterprises due to lack of finance, once 'Buoyancy' returns to the 'King Size' businesses, the 'Rest' will soon follow suit and customers will 'Flock' to buy more beds, result, healthy balance 'Sheets' and a 'Blanket' recovery.

IMHO.
