"Lawmakers to Meet Turkish-Cypriot Leaders"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

"Lawmakers to Meet Turkish-Cypriot Leaders"

Postby BigDutch » Wed May 25, 2005 2:15 pm

"Whitfield, co-chairman of the Turkey Caucus, will fly directly into northern Cyprus with two other congressmen to visit with Turkish-Cypriot leaders."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 01271.html

Interesting development.

Do you by any chance mean "trip" when you say "drip"? :?

Anger as Congress visit to north confirmed
By Jean Christou

THE GOVERNMENT said yesterday it could not see any rationale in comments by former US Cyprus envoy Thomas Weston on the planned visit by three American congressmen to the north next week.

Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said that any visit by foreign officials to the north was a violation of UN Security Council Resolutions.

According to the Washington Post, Republican Ed Whitfield will lead a delegation to the north next week, “in an effort to show support for the Turkish Cypriot population on the divided island and improve US ties with Turkey”.

Whitfield, co-chairman of the Turkey Caucus, will fly directly into northern Cyprus with two other congressmen, it said.

“The trip is a step toward ending the isolation of Turkish Cypriots and marks the first time US congressmen have flown directly into northern Cyprus since the 1980s,” Weston said.

The congressmen will also meet with government and military officials in Turkey.

“Improved relations with Turkey will strengthen US foreign policy goals throughout the world,” Whitfield told the Post.

Chrysostomides said he was aware of Weston’s statement “I don’t understand the rationale of Mr Weston’s comments,” he said, adding that the government had already made representations to the US over the visit.

Confirmation of the visit, hmmmmm

You mean the end of the EU dream for Turkey, the impossibility of UK military to cross from one of their base to the other (and many more problems) and our full support for the forces that resist the US/UK/Turkey/Israel criminal actions?

Just remember: The world is not just the few criminal administrations that act with no respect to international law.

Pirati: There is no EU membership for Turkey and Turkish people know that well. Secondly, now that you are in the EU and UK is in the EU, then you would like to avoid any problems with that country. Thirdly, you are currently supporting any actions that resist Turkish "criminal" actions.
For the last comment: that's the way too drammatic :)

Do you know how much it means for Turkey financially to have an accession process with the EU?

Why do you think Turks bother so much with EU then? Just for fun?

As far as UK goes, it is not just up to us to have a good relationship. If they don't want to have a good relationship with RoC there is nothing we can do about it. We can only respond. They should know that there is a cost to pay.

I'm not sure what cost there could possibly be to the UK Piratis... slight balance of strength and balance of payments issue there... Are you threatening to ban exports of potatoes during the winter?

I hope you're not one of these people who advocate violence against the bases... how counterproductive would that be...
