CHRISTOFIAS SAYS THORNY ISSUES WAITING TO BE SOLVED DURING TALKS
The leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration commented about today’s meeting at the Presidential Palace in South Cyprus.
He said there were many ‘thorny issues’ that were waiting to be solved between the two sides.
Speaking to journalists upon his return today, the leader of the Greek Cypriot administration said that the two sides had agreed to separate the issues that they had agreed on and the issues that needed to be re-discussed.
Upon being asked whether or the not the two side’s positions had become clear on issues that were not agreed upon Hristofias replied ‘not yet. We are going to be discussing issues of foreign affairs. Hierarchy of the norms, the relationship between the laws of the constituent states and the federal government as well will continue to be discussed.’
‘We are also going to discuss mechanisms that can overcome deadlocks. Before the Cyprus issue enters a new phase there are still many issues that need to be discussed’, he added.
TALAT SAYS NO NEED TO BE PESIMISTIC DURING TALKS
TC'S leader Mehmet Ali Talat answered journalists’ questions upon his return to the President Palace today.
Here he said there was no need to be pessimistic about the comprehensive negotiations process that was taking place but added there was a need to meet more frequently in the future.
Evaluating the Cyprus negotiations process that is taking place between the two leaders in Cyprus,Talat reaffirmed that there was no need to be pessimistic about the process that is taking place, but added that in the future the need for meeting more on a frequent basis would arise.
He said the issue of power sharing and administration would not be completed by the end of the year, but added that they planned to complete this issue in the first few weeks of 2009.
