YOU CALL YOURSELF TURKS AND GREEKS

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Thanks for your empathy,Bananiot...I think I am ready to give up and admit defeat...I believe we will have less of a chance as human beings to win over the bigots...If otherwise intelligent and sensible people cannot see that the whole problem started because certain foreign powers convinced us we were Greeks or Turks before we are Cypriots, and still to this day they insist on hanging off the aprons of their "mothers",what chance is there of uniting this God forsaken country...????It is easy to sing the virtues of DEMOCRACY when you know you are in the majority...It is easy to hold the centuries old grudges and the bitterness and hatred towards what you consider "the enemy"...And want to exctract punishment and revenge...It is somewhat harder to face yourself honestly and admit that you were terribly callous in dealing with your main minority...And admit that you have put such fear and terror into that minority that they will not trust you as long as you keep insisting that your ethnicity means everything to you and you could not possibly live without rubbing it into the other side's faces...What else is there to say?

I want to live in a fully democratic country, where everyone has one vote of equal value, and where one's ethnicity plays no more part in their lives than the colour of their eyes or hair...But this will never happen as long as people insist on holding tightly onto the very illness (ethnic nationalism) which has crippled them for more than half a century...
Words have failed me...I can only watch from a distance how my beloved country slowly self-destructs... :( :(

Have faith my dear friend , there are thousands upon thousands of Cypriots who share our views and are proud Cypriots first and foremost.
On this forum alone there are many .

Foreign powers did not convince us that we are Greek. We have been Greek since before the Hellenistic Period. In fact, Cypriots were instrumental in the creation of Hellenism, since we played a integral role in the development and evolution of the Greek Alphabet.

It is easy to sing the virtues of DEMOCRACY when you know you are in the majority

And yet, that is the definition of Democracy. A democracy is where all citizens enjoy equal liberties and political rights.

There are several varieties of democracy some of which provide better representation and more freedoms for their citizens than others.[8][9] However, if any democracy is not carefully legislated to avoid an uneven distribution of political power with balances such as the separation of powers, then a branch of the system of rule is able to accumulate power in a way that is harmful to democracy itself.

BIR Writes:

It is easy to hold the centuries old grudges and the bitterness and hatred towards what you consider "the enemy"...And want to exctract punishment and revenge...It is somewhat harder to face yourself honestly and admit that you were terribly callous in dealing with your main minority...And admit that you have put such fear and terror into that minority that they will not trust you as long as you keep insisting that your ethnicity means everything to you and you could not possibly live without rubbing it into the other side's faces...What else is there to say?

We do not want revenge against anyone. We are very forgiving people, despite your betrayal of the RoC. We wish to share a country as EQUAL citizens where we all have exactly the same rights and liberties. Nothing more and nothing less.

It is you that wishes to re-write the definition of democracy which will only lead to further bloodshed down the track. Any such solution will be unworkable.

As an unwelcome invader to the island, you have no right telling the indigenous islanders to abandon their culture or ethnicity, just because this would make you feel better or more secure.

Forget the DNA nonsense folks the proof of the pudding is the above

Well, Milti, I have only scored 3 (see boldfonts) then this puts me in the borderline case.
Maybe, it is because I am half-cypriot (maternal side).
BTW, don't think you may have forgotten two things among the above:
1) Seafood of any kind. Fish, squid, shrimps, prawn, crab stick, octopus.
2) .....something that you and I share the most: W I N E...

You forgot having a warm affiliation to Donkeys :D

You are right Oracle. But Miltiades 'criteria' will enable all tourists to be Cypriot. There is a missing 'link' somewhere. I am trying to put my finger on it. :?

I have already established who the missing link is.

It is non other than GR!, The Choirokitian Cypriot.

Please read my valuable research on the subject. 8)

This is the stuff of Eugenics and has no Scientific basis behind it whatsoever. Only a modern day racist can cling on to such beliefs.

There is only one gene pool ... it is the Earth's gene pool and your genes are made from the very same stuff as PLANT genes and bacterial genes and most (maybe all) of our genes function in exactly the same way as PLANT genes and bacterial genes. Having different types of genes (e.g. to make chlorophyll or milk) can place us into different groups (and speciation) ... but as Humans we do NOT form genetically different gene pools ... We are ALL, as part of this one species, far too genetically similar, and that includes the Amazonian tribes which have not mixed with others for thousands of years.

There are no NEW genes that one human has, that another does not, in order to constitute a new or different race. We all have the same genes, one gene pool, albeit variations which give us blue eyes or brown eyes, bigger lungs or smaller brains!

Then, what about the crap you churned out in your post ?:
http://www.cyprus-forum.com/viewtopic.p ... 5&start=10

such as this one below:

One Race .... The Human Race ... Inspired by Greeks ... Purveyors of superior DNA!

Greek Genes .... God's Genes .... Good Genes .... Gimmee!

Terrible Turks .... Trashy Turks .... Teratogenic Turks .... Terminate!

A fine sample exhibit from a pseudo-scientist (albeit a moron).

I think you will find that was a parody ..... since I do not believe in God. And if you read it carefully, it is suggesting the Greeks inspired THE Human Race .... that is a NURTURE (meme) assertion and does not say that the Greeks have NEW genes to make them a DIFFERENT "race".

Still even in the parody/joke (to ridicule the thread topic), and as indicated by the silly layout with smileys, I stated clearly One Race ... The Human race ... Inspired by Greeks. 8) ... and yes the whole Human Race does have superior DNA (as genes) for various functions.

Which is 100% correct.

i read a lot of arguments here and now in this thread and yet we do not except the fact that cypriot DNA is far more matching to the cypriots then those of the mainland that you lot call motherland,

i also read that greek speakign cypriots accuse turkish cypriots of crimes and turkish speaking cypriots accuse greek speaking cypriots of crimes the truth of the matter is all cypriots have comited crimes agains our own people i have said this ages ago and i have no reason to change my stance on this also the present so called leaders of cyprus are traitors to cyprus, for they do not represent cyprus or cypriots but they represent what is in the intrest of mainland greece and turkey so there for this leaves us without identity an island that is lost in the history of identity for its own people,

oppssss i forgot we are greeks and turks well if modern day miracles are anything to go by i think cypriots are a miracle after 8000 years of rule by outsiders by changing riligions names languages ect we emerged as pure greeks and turks

such a waste for those who concider themselves univercity educated who become lawyers accountants doctors and many other proffesions and yet they remain greeks and turks from cyprus devoted to motherlands their anthems and their flags and yet depriving themselves of being cypriots and being proud of it

What a lot of garbage ... how do you estimate that?

You are clueless!

Pick any Cypriot and any other person from anywhere in the world and tell me what exactly will distinguish one genome from another!

A good blog on anthroplogy is http://dienekes.blogspot.com/ Hes a bit of a nationalist or patriot depending on how you look at him but he has the most popular anthroplogy blog in greece - worth a read every now and then. This concept of not being able to distinguish between ethnic groups on the basis of their genome will probably change in the coming years according to an article on his site posted 2 days ago - check it out and also the comments on the article titled

'2008 in review: Ethnicity Strikes Back
34 comments
The major breakthrough of 2008 was the application of microarray technology to the problem of inferring ethnic ancestry.'

There are a few journals linked also

O, I can not help but feel an affinity towards Free_cyprus, regardless of the inherent lack or complete absence of "charismatic" presentation of his views . He is absolutely correct in airing his views regardless of the method he uses in doing so. The message contained in his views is not complex but it defies grammatical measurement because it is such an honest and solid assessment of the situation , no doubt he possesses an enormous amount of common sense that has helped him to retain a hold on his true patrimony.
Well said my friend.
