...Chris Evans in Cyprus today
By Nathan Morley
BRITISH television and radio personality Chris Evans arrives in Cyprus today to present a special radio broadcast from the British base at Dhekelia.
Evans, 42, will host his award-winning BBC Radio 2 afternoon programme live from the headquarters of the 2nd Battalion 2PWRR this afternoon.
The star will be meeting soldiers and their families and conducting interviews with key military personnel during the show.
A spokesman for BBC Radio said that, “Chris is really looking forward to the event; he is interested in hearing soldiers stories from operations and of living in Cyprus.”
2PWRR, or The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, are currently based at Alexander Barracks and their troops have recently seen action in hotspots such as Afghanistan. Their regimental HQ is in Canterbury.
The programme, which is heard by over 4 million listeners, will start at 7pm and run through to 9pm.
Chris Evans shot to fame in the early 1990s after fronting a string of top rated shows including ‘TFI Friday’, ‘The Big Breakfast’ and ‘Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush’.
Listeners can eavesdrop on today’s broadcast, which will be streamed live at www.bbc.co.uk/radio2
Evans and his BBC team will depart for the UK early tomorrow morning.
Evans is the latest high profile figure to broadcast live from the island, last month British radio shock-jock Jon Gaunt presented his national Talksport show from Paphos.
