Could you kindly explain it to us? would it mean that GCs would not reduce us to minority status in our own country, do away with our community rights as per 1960 agreements? that they will not discriminate against TCs? Just how will this great "EU" do that? if things are not agreed before hand?

You are a minority. Minorities in other EU countries do not demand "equal" status with majorities. The Law, backed by EU guarantees (not Turkey's), will protect your minority rights - same as in any other modern democracy.

So what you are saying is ditch your communities rights via the internationally recognized 1960 agreements and just become another minority like the Pakistanis in the UK and live in a GC dominated state? We are not like the Pakistanis we are more alike to the Scots of the UK can you understand the difference? We are not visitors we are indigenous.

firstly you are nothing like the Scots. Secondly, the only people that have ditched the 1960 agrements and do not recognise the 1960 Republic is you.

Ate those 13 points that Makarios wanted to change in place...Are we still represented in government.....You do talk a lot of bollo**

IS Turkey respecting the Treaty of Gaurantee today?

Oh thats why you did it...Because you knew that Turkey would not respect it in the future...How prepared can you get

WHen a minority brings the entire govt to a standstill and the treasury is empty cause you won't allow any taxes to be collected then I'd shoot my leader myself if he hadn't proposed any changes to make govt more workable.

It was the GCs who did not respect their own supreme court judgement on local councils thats why things came to a stand still. We were in the right you were in the wrong and messed things up big time.

We have been through these arguments before. The 1960 Agreements were forced on GCs - "take it or accept partition as a punishment for defying the British Empire" was what we were faced with and "oh and by the way your former master's offspring will be rewarded for helping us"

The Zurich Agreement was the most complex convoluted constitution ever imposed on any former colony of Imperialism, it was a poisoned chalice, it favoured one side and discriminated against the majority. If Greek Cypriots had been given the opportunity to vote for it in a free referendum, like AP, then they would have rejected it - they never had the choice.

The Treaty of Gaurantee was, in reality, illegal. No country should be given the right to intervene in the affairs of a sovereign State.

What really winds me up about the Turkish Cypriot fanatics on this site is they are too stupid and self centered to see that it was the 1960 "agreements" that put them in jeopardy of the GCs - it did nothing to protect them as a minority - in fact it did the exact opposite.

So, lets go back to 1959 and ask for real "Vigin Birth" to be defined and determined by an internationally recognised judicial body.

Jerry’s post pretty much wraps up the thorn of Cyprus. Just when you think that by having special rules in place for one of the ethnic communities you are doing the right thing, it just instills a great sense of injustice in the rest causing ill feelings and a negative response. Special rules for some are racist and promote segregation instead of unification.

We must let bygones be bygones and move forward with a freshly drawn up and proper democratic system that adheres to EU values.

Why doesn't somebody do that, draw up a constitution for Cyprus based on those principles and then see who objects to what. This could be done in isolation from the who gives what back, to who, who leaves, who stays and who guarantees.

It beats me... it seems that the only thing Cypriots can ever come up with are perfect ways to segregate and the foreign powers are always happy to oblige!

But can we blame them when most Cypriots are declaring to be anything but Cypriot? We are our own worst enemy… :(

So the agreement "favoured" the TCs but "did nothing to protect them"..hmmmm

Hmmm...I am just wondering how an agreement that favours one side does nothing to protect them. :?

And of course the Greeks and the Greek Cypriots being so generous and having a great wish to "protect" the Turkish Cypriots decided to give them the "protection" they deserved....with guns, bombs and a bullet through the head.

How kind!

illegal.

The most used and famous word in the Greek and Greek Cypriot propaganda together with "pseudo".

I still like Byron's (not the dickhead on here, the original) quote that if you get two Greeks together, they represent at least three political parties.

Unfortunately we have the same problem.

But can we blame them when most Cypriots are declaring to be anything but Cypriot? We are our own worst enemy… :(
