Not making into a foreigners thing, the instigators are purely Greek...BUT
Half of those guys running into the shops were opportunistic Albanians and asians. They caught one of those guys and he was yelling in a Bangladeshi accent.
It stands to reason, if you've been to Plateia Omonoias lately you'll be lucky if you spot one Greek on that Sq which is full of unemployed homeless immigrants. Do you honestly think they'd sit idly by and miss the opportunity to walk into an electronics shop for some shopping?
