Greek riots: Students vow fourth day of protests

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby patriotisplus » Sat Dec 13, 2008 11:19 pm

I love it how everyone rushes to say the best words for Cyprus, as if they are trying to advertise it to tourists. Lets keep our head in the sand and continue to get fat with our high salaries, why change when myself and kids have everything?
The whole story reminds of how many greek newspapers/reporters are now saying that the riots are a careful plan of the Americans to overthrown Karamanlis, similar during last years fires. Corruption is such a wonderful thing, but wait, every country has it therefore there is nothing wrong with Cyprus!

So your the guy conducting the hunger strike outside the Presidential Palace until Al Capone gets caught again.

Wish we could all be as active as you.

Bananiot asks:

"Have you been to Sweden?"

Is this an allusion to some kind of "national mentality" ? As if in other countries there is a superior culture which leads people to keep the place clean and tidy with no compulsion or threat of force. Fact of the matter is that if you litter you will be caught, because police are around and are doing their job, and you will be fined because the courts work fast and efficiently.

In Belgium the police stop you when returning from a hardware store with building material, check to see which house you are taking it to, and if it is not your house they link from inside the police car to the tax office compuer and check to see if you are registered as a builder and pay VAT!

Would any of the above be possible in our culture without some asshole shouting "police state!" ?

Bananiot in a post above took exception to the criticism of Leonidas Kyrkos by professor Yannaras.
Kyrkos is an icon of the left, a civil war veteran, a politician persecuted by the dictators for his ideals, founder of the eurocommunists today known as SYRIZA.

This is what Leonidas Kyrkos had to say about the riots in his interview to Eleftherotypia:

In a more recent TV interview two days ago Kyrkos severely criticised his party's current leadership for not condemning the riots.

Is Kyrkos wrong Bananiot in condemning the riots? Are you going to salute him with a raised arm and a shout of "heil Hitler" too?

"Only recently, in an article in "Kathimerini" he called for two Greek political parties (KKE and SYRIZA) to be outlawed!"

Quote the source se we can double check it please! Which day and date?

I have checked all of Yannaras' articles in Kathimerini, all the way back to July and there is NOTHING referring to the two parties you mention above.

Where is this article?

I will find the articles for you, no problem, but not now as I am rather busy at the moment.

Regarding Kyrkos, I agree with him 100% and furthermore I accuse those that focus on the hooded vandals rather than the vast majority of the demonstrators and their just cause, in order to divert attention from the real issues.

Kyrkos, by the way, made a break from KKE a long time ago, probably in 1968 and along with people like Enrico Berlinguer called for the establishment of internal democracy in the communist parties and independence from the Soviet Union.

P.S. 1. I saluted GR who light-heartedly and foolishly called for the tanks to roll in on Athens. Did Kyrkos made such a call? I know the man better than you Nikitas. I had the privilege to meet him on a number of occasions and shake his hand. He is the last man on earth to make such a call.

P.S. 2. His handshake is deadly. He has huge hands and squeezes really purposefully. He nearly crushed mine!
