Greek riots: Students vow fourth day of protests

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I never said I approve of that womble for a prime minister or the rest of that government, but we must be careful not to play into the game of a group of troubled people, that exist in every society, and who are looking for the slightest opportunity to lead the country into chaos.

You can either show your dissatisfaction towards this government by voicing your gripes in forums, the media, demonstrations, etc, or wait until the next elections.

However, a bad government is no excuse to trash the country and make everyone’s life even more miserable.

I take it you are now not calling for the government to send the army in.

Unemployment amongst the young people is above 25% in Greece and still there are people in this forum who do not see the reasons of the events of last week. Even the people that work, it was reported tonight by Euronews, only get 700 euros a month and if they cannot do another job they cannot make ends meet. At the same time, governemnt ministers and other officials are reported making big money with their involvement in scandals, be they church or other.

I was talking last week about Cyprus being a third world country. Events yesterday tend to contradict me. I am being harsh on the third world countries. Have you read the unbelievable story of how the worst criminal ever in Cyprus who was convicted for two murders of young girls and jailed (for 15 years!) managed to escape?

bit by bit, you are losing the last traces of credibility on this forum. The fact that you equate ONE (1) escaped prisoner with an entire country's status and position in the world. Because no one has ever escaped from the UK, the US, Germany, France etc.

I say the only trace of 3rd worldness in this country should be found at the school you teach in. With this outlook when you condemn an entire country for one escaped convict I hate to see the young people that are being churned out of your defeatist sausage factory.

I keep in touch with a Greek PhD student of mine who graduated about 8-10 years ago. She works as a researcher in a Greek university and tells me she earns around 700 euros/month (way less than her PhD stipend here in the UK all those years ago), and moreover is treated like crap by her boss. Recently I provided a reference for her as she was going to apply for a laboratory technician position that would pay 900 euros/month, and she saw this as a real opportunity. Academic researcher with BSc and PhD reduced to applying for technician jobs just to increase her salary! Something wrong there, I'd say........ :? Not that she would ever be a rioter.......

One escape convict? Do your homework, three so far this year alone! However, it is the way he escaped that is bothering DT. If it were an ingenious escape I would applaud it, so to speak. It is also the incompetence of the people that are paid to look after us and keep us safe from these dangerous criminals, that is bothering, but of course you can excuse everything on the logic that these things happen in other lands too. Where were you DT, to tell this to the Interior Minister Chrysostomides, who put his job on the line by asking Christofias to relieve him of his duties, if he thought it necessary? Of course, in a banana republic, the President never sacks his friends but he applauds them for conjuring enough courage to think about resigning.

Damn it, it looks really bad DT, let us face it and talk about it, perhaps someone may listen!

Help me out. Name me a country which you consider as part of the developed 1st world. Then I can consider what our benchmarks are. You'll get the truth from me, I have no allegiance to an AKEL govt, or Chrysostomides. He used to represent my company as a solicitor and we where not the happiest clients in the world.

Be careful with you choice Bananiot because most statistics are readily available online...
