How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Look at the map of the eastern Mediterranean and draw in the Exclusive Economic Zones of norther Cyprus and Turkey and see where the situation leads. With possession of northern Cyprus Turkey controls more of the area as part of the EEZ than all the neighboring countries combined.

Countries have no room for cympathies, only interests. The TCs have been used and when they are no longer needed they will be discarded, this much was stated by the late TC politician Ozgur. Time is proving him right.

To anywhere but Cyprus. Look around and you will see this ethnic cleansing is systematically occurring as we speak.

The TC population will dwindle to anywhere between 10,000-40,000. Turkey will be in complete control, for ever. There will be no solution in Cyprus, unless that solution serves Turkish interests, and the GCs are foolish enough to accept it.

So there we have it. It leaves only one other option if Cyprus is ever to be liberated. This option requires lots of courage and tenacity, and I don't think modern day Cypriots have it in them.

There are isolated cases. You family may be a good example.

But lets think logically. How many people do you think will move back to the "trnc", which has no future and is virtually bankrupt?

More and more TCs will migrate to UK, Australia, Canada and US. This is what is happening as we speak. Soon the TC population will only be 15% or less in the 'trnc". Unfortunately, the future of TCs in Cyprus is very bleak. The prospects of a solution are also bleak.

The thing is that the TCs from the UK are going back in droves mate....They have land and homes in the UK and the TRNC....They bring in lots of money but are not dependent on the TRNC economy but are adding to it. Another embargo breaking feat....... 8) 8) 8)
Time for my bed now mate.....You can believe what you want....What I saw in the TRNC this summer is heartening......This bloody recession will hit some hard but the ones I know are recession proof because of what they have and their age..I am sure if OZ was nearer then the thousands there would do the same.

Paphitis has a point, Zan. Good intentions alone do not make up for economic realities. Economically speaking, the north cannot stand up for itself without massive Turkish support. You can reply that the embargoes have caused this to be, but the north's size, heavy reliance on tourism and agriculture, plus the 'brain drain' of emigrating Turkish Cypriots, and this paints a very bleak picture.

Again utu......People are moving back in droves.....A television presenter/reporter friend of mine.....Moved back and is working hard....A lawyer son of a friend...Moved back working hard.....My niece an accontant...Love life a bit on the rocks, is looking to move back and work hard. These and many more......One thing that made me very proud....One beach I went to in Magusa..Glabsides (Spelling)...Thousands of English speaking young men and women wearing the star and cresent around their necks as TC as can be and proud of who they are. I lost my way a long time ago as to who I am utu and I still feel shame about that but they were different times...Fitting in was more important in those days in the UK. These kids are more TC than I will probably ever be. They go back year after year and are love it...How many of them will stay for good one day??? People investing in their homes for their early retirement or hoping to open businesses....Things are changing.....Every one of those "Settlers" potential customers along with 80,000,000 in Turkey....Lift the isolation further and watch us go!!!!!!!

Their is only one question here utu.....Will we be allowed to take our rightful place in a unified Cyprus or go it alone in the TRNC. The rest is just propaganda!!!!!

You are fooling yourself if you believe people are moving back to Cyprus in "droves".
Those who were foolish enough are banging their heads against a wall for doing so.
Maybe retired people move back and that's because they already invested their life savings on a property but even they are complaining because cost of life has became so expensive they are struggling to make ends meet on a pension.
The new military law isn't helping either...Thanks to Turkish army Cypriot men living abroad are thinking twice before deciding to retire here..Its free for a mainland Turk to settle here but it costs £3000 for a TC to retire back to his home country.
As for young people, they even stopped coming here for their holidays.I have friends who are in entertainment business and i know the score very well..

I have no doubt that you are right also iceman but the story can't all be good...The buzzword for the people I know is to find a way of returning. This is a transitional period and I did not say that it is all rosy.....The signals are good though as far as I am concerned....There is a lot wrong in the TRNC iceman......I seem to be confident or even hopeful that it will change sooner rather than later. Lets see what happens with the talks....One way or another the economy will get better...There are far more interested people than there was for that to happen.

There are people I know who have done their national service as well and after I told them that I would pay the £3000 pounds tried their very hardest to convince me to do my month and pay the 1500 instead because they had so much fun...What ever peoples bent...3000 is not a lot of money if you do not pay it begrudgingly.....It did make me laugh the w`y people moan about money out there....Two three cars in the family...As soon as the kids get married, up goes another house....I am shitting myself as to what my children are going to do when they come of age....The people I am talking about are just normal people....It seems that moaning about money and eating out every night is a national pass time...People are not content with just making a living and in Cyprus the sums of money that has been bended around with the thought of compensation and land values has everyone thinking they will become millionaires over night.....Reality will soon catch up. Hard work is what is needed and the opportunity to benefit from it with the lifting of the embargoes.
