He was without doubt an important figure in recent Cyprus history....He was probably the last living important EOKA leader...He saw off Makarios,Grivas,Yorgadjis,Kiprianu and even Sampson....He was i believe a heavy smoker....I wonder if that was because he was carrying the weight of history on his shoulders....May God have mercy on his soul...And may he rest in peace... :(

Don't worry about God having mercy on his soul. If He exists then I am sure TPap will take his rightful place, since he dedicated and sacrificed himself for the benefit of the Cypriot people. He loved his country and his people.

He is the saviour of The Republic of Cyprus, and he will be remembered as such forever. The man is a national hero.

I think it is better to leave partisan Cyprus politics out of this thread,Paphidis...
This is not the place for it...

I think you have lost the plot.

You will find that all Cypriots respect this man. And this respect is bi-partisan.

You on the other hand disrespect him by stating that God should perhaps have mercy on his soul. Your post is most cheeky and underhanded whilst this national hero is fighting for his life.

Fighting for his life does not make him a hero, if he was elected again, I wld have believed you..but most of the Cypriots rejected him..God knows why

Fighting for his country sure as hell makes him a hero. Saving The Republic of Cyprus makes him the ultimate hero.

A most unfortunate post .....

Shameful!

Shameful is you and Paphidis trying to imply things in my post which are not there...I wrote my commiserations as a Turkish Cypriot, putting him in historical context, and showing respect and compassion for the man...Silly me! I forgot that Turkish Cypriots do not exist for some of you,we are all evil Turks always acting underhandedly....I think I will take my brother Kifeas' advice and stop wasting my time on you ...

Because he was back-stabbed by his former ally and current President of Cyprus.

I don't really want to discuss anything further about this, as it is disrespectful. You should know better, Karma. Very disappointed.

my thoughts are with his family. As for my thoughts for you, thats another subject and I'll tell you about them on another thread.

May he rest in peace.

Reporting publicily the death of someone without getting your facts right, is a very serious matter. Therefore I think an apology from you would be in order.

Before you shoot the messenger, you should be aware that his death (rightly or wrongly) was PRINTED in at least one newspaper (Africa) here this morning!!!
And I would also add that the phrase "may God have mercy on his soul" is not implying that the deceased was a bad person - it is a very common phrase used when someone dies. So I think Bir and DT are the ones who should receive an apology!!!!!

Anyone who allows himself to be misinformed by "TRNC" newspapers should be shot on the spot like an echinococcus infested mutt…

Perhaps you need to post some proof about these character slurs against a former President. Maybe you could do this at another time and then we can discuss. For now our thoughts are just with Tassos Pappadopoulos and his family. I just ask that you respect this, as it is not the right time to discuss these matters.
