Northern Cyprus Hotels & Info

Postby yvonne taylor » Tue May 24, 2005 12:16 pm

I would like to visit Northern Cyprus in September with my Husband, son (aged 3), Mother & Father-in law.

I have been looking at two hotels, Chateau Lambousa and Denis Kizi in Kyrenia . Does anyone have any views on these two hotels ?

Also, I am a little confused as to where I would fly into and how long it will take to get from the airport to the hotel, can anyone advise ?

Can anyone recommend any good restaurants in Kyrenia

Finally, what is the weather like at the end of September ?

Yvonne, welcome to the forum...

The weather in September should be fine and dry in Kyrenia, probably in the upper 20's, low 30's depending on when in September you go. The weather doesn't normally begin to break until October so you should have guaranteed sunshine.

I'm not sure if you're aware of the situation regarding travel between Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus. If you book a package, you will probably fly via Istanbul in Turkey as the airport (Tymbou/Ercan) is not recognised internationally, so I think most planes have to have a technical stop in Turkey before flying on to Cyprus. If you fly into Ercan, it should take about 40ish minutes to get to Kyrenia.

However, increasingly people are taking the more frequent and cheaper option of flying to Larnaka in the Republic and crossing the Green Line to the north to spend their holiday. From Larnaka it would take a little more than an hour, but it would mean crossing the 'frontier' in Lefkosia. It's not something I've done as a tourist, so I can't offer advice as to the practicality of doing so.

All I'd suggest is that before going, if you're not aware of the political situation in Cyprus, you make yourself aware of it. As I'm sure other posters following me will point out, the two hotels you've mentioned may be built upon land that was owned by Greek-Cypriots prior to the war in 1974... which is a whole other can of worms...

Hi,

we are also looking into going to the north in August/September. Just to relax and see the other part of the island without rushing back and forth.

I know its a sensitive subject, but nontheless, I would like to get some info of hotels in the north, pref. Kyrenia. We are looking for a 5* hotel or something similar. I would be grateful for any advist.

Thnx....

I would say the bulk of them are in kyrenia but unless you stay in them you never know for sure as the old saying go's "never judge a book by its cover" also tourism starved for so many years i guess they also go out of there way to make the stay as good as possible.
