Do TCs want to live in a GC state as a minority?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Britain was to blame for that. Also the realpolitik of the Cold War. It left one hell of a legacy for Cyprus, whichever way you look at it...

All the Cypriots are generally good natured and very hospitable but they were never left alone by the terrible three. Now though, with the GC financial strength and foothold into the world we have for the first time a chance for all Cypriots to stand up tall, proud, united, and even do better with our greater united numbers. Any shortcomings that the TCs may have in skills etc can be easily overcome within five years and then we’ll have an even bigger manpower all up to scratch to kick more butt… I recon everyone will have a ball provided its done under a proper democracy.

They do Zanny because they haven't had the exposure of the rest of the world... closed up in there with no funds for too long. No sophisticated machinery etc etc...

Unfortunately, Zan, given the fact that the north's economy is based on tourism and agriculture, those two items alone are not going to keep the north afloat. That's the basic truth here.

That I don't know. I do know that the north has established a number of tertiary educational institutions, but I don't believe they are prperly accredited, or that they are "grand institutions". There was a comment written recently about an Australian soldier deployed with UNIFCYP who said that these institutions were not exactly impressive-looking.
Also, ther question begs: those TC's who go to Turkey for education... how many of them return to the north?

Ok, let’s calculate:

10 education institutions x 1,000 students each @ $5,000 p/a = $5,000,000

That’s what the RoC spends on a couple of Hind choppers…

If what you say is true, and TC's were forced off their lands at gunpoint into enclaves, then why has there been no major effort to redress this? I would have thought that the EU would have wanted to see resolution on such a thing.

This question is very confusing utu...what era are you talking about??

This is the one thing that makes me wonder about the events of 1963 happenning as stated. The EU's charter on human rights makes redress of ethnic wrongs a priority. So, if the Turkish Cypriot land owners were forced off their land and pushed into enclaves by Greek Cypriots, then the EU would rightly insist upon those land losses being redressed, right? The EU has a court whose decisions are binding on members. So, if Turkish Cypriot land was indeed taken en-masse, where is the EU ruling regarding this?

I am surprised nobody has put you out of your misery yet,Utu.

In 1963 the EU was just a fledgling economic and cultural Union between Belgium,France,Germany,Italy,Luxemburg and the Netherlands. There was no internationally recognised EU Human Rights Court or anything else for that matter...
