I am sure that most members of the forum are believers of evolutionism as oppossed to creationism, but does this preclude the existence of a supreme being that is ultimately responsible for us being here?

I put myself down as an agnostic with a leaning towards some kind of diety.

It is not a matter of believing in evolution ... it is a matter of accepting the evidence or refuting it.

Evolution rests on evidence for which you may have to prepare yourself .... as opposed to accepting some-one's theory about a fantasy ... and without expecting evidence (much like reading a novel).

Blind faith is not comparable to an evidence based physical, changeable and testable proposal.

The whole concept of religious belief must have been born out of a desire to understand that which (to those of bygone ages) was a complete mystery.

Science now has a greater understanding of all things and is in a position to make many contradictory claims, particularly in terms of 'The Creation'.

What science cannot do and the acceptance of religious beliefs CAN, is unite people (particularly the underprivileged) and set standards (tenets) which PRESUMABLY will enable them to live better lives with the added bonus (in many cases) of eternal life, providing the tenets are adhered to.

As to myself, the prospect of eternal life would not appeal since I have seen so much hatred and destruction in the time I have already spent, I am sure I will have had quite enough by the time I reach my dotage.
