Seriously, unfortunately this is a capitalist society we live in.

denizaksulu i'm going to ignore your mocking attitude and just answer your second comment.
Yes, SERIOUSLY we live in a capitalist society nobody is doubting that. This however should not stop you from attempting to save some money so you can live a better life.
Ironically, in countries which are more capitalist than Cyprus there are banks which offer accounts with NO COSTS, no statement fees, no checkbook fees, no ATM fees, no quarterly ledger costs... nothing... they even give you a gift for opening an account with them. So, the basis for your argument is completely wrong and you seam to have no idea what you are talking about. Sorry for being so blunt.
There is no excuse for these charges in Cyprus, competition is healthy and the whole thing smells of banking cartel..!

True, kind of a dull subject to talk about a few days before Christmas. However you seam to have confused JOKES with SARCASM. One requires a "sense of humor" the other doesn't. There's plenty of "humor inside me" just make a JOKE or say anything remotely funny and you'll see.
I started this thread to provoke some healthy debate on a matter that is too often overlooked by many people. The skimming of our money by banks that is only allowed to happen because we do nothing about it. Banks can make money by providing services like loans or credit cards. But skimming a little bit off each and every account is like stealing. You might argue that "providing you with an account" is a service, but it's not! They manage your money and invest it, to make more money for themselves. For them to manage your money they need a way for you to give it to them, a conduit, or an account. Banks are not entitled to "a bit" of your money every month.
