The unknown problems of Cyprus helps the UBP to comeback to power.

not like Talat or CTP , UBP wants to sit on the negotiation table as the TRNC . Otherwise they will pull out from the talks .....that's what they are saying ............. we will see ...... in coming days what will be the new policies of UBP.

If some one asks me which one i will choose ...... I say Eroğlu ....

Tahsin is too extremist compare to Eroğlu

And of course you the fools will elect them to power, for you think this might ever be possible!

And since when any TC leadership does anything different than what Turkey tells them?

Anyway, Turkey allowing those extremists to be elected, will land all the international blame fair and square on themselves for the inevitable collapse of the talks, and will put Turkey in an even more difficult situation in its endeavors and relations with the EU. Perhaps this is good sign for the GC side, since anyway with Talat we are not heading anywhere, as far as a solution is concerned.

Kifeas,
First of all I am not supporter of UBP . ..... i said if i can choose between two of them , i said Eroğlu .....

and here it is what it is came out from their election:

DECISIONS TAKEN ON CYPRUS ISSUE

During the National Unity Party’s 17th Congress meeting yesterday, discussion concerning the negotiations process and the latest stage reached on the Cyprus issue were also taken.

The commission led by Irsen Kucuk made a decision that the time had come to bring to the agenda that the negotiations process is taking place between two independent and sovereign states under the auspices of the United Nations.

The party announced the decision it had taken with a written statement.

Here they clarified that the Greek Cypriot administration was trying to extend the so called Republic of Cyprus’ sovereignty to the north.

‘The world is starting to understand us. The Greek Cypriot side will be punished. These claims are all unfounded and the manifesto signed between the south and Russia is proof of this’, it stated.

It continue to note that the National Unity Party is not against the negotiations process taking place within the framework of the United Nations Secretary Generals Good Office Mission but if the negotiations process is not taking place on the reality that there are two equal sovereign states at the negotiations process then its failure is inevitable.

‘Our people are not condemned to unite with the Greek Cypriot side. Our right to separate is just as valid as our right to unite. We feel it is necessary to make alternative plans with the cooperation of Motherland Turkey’.

Explaining that according to a questioner a large majority of the Turkish Cypriot people want the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus state to be recognized, the statement added that no one is able to withstand the will of the people.

The main opposition National Unity Party has held its 17th General Congress last night and Dervis Eroglu has become the new National Unity Party leader.

Making a speech after his election, Mr Eroglu said he had not won but his party had won and added that ‘their walk towards the power in government has begun’.

He said his party had showed what democracy was really about and said not only had the National Unity Party won but the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as well.

‘What’s important from now on is the struggle we will wage to return to power’ he said adding that he will do everything he can with the support of his party to make this happen.

Claiming that the Republican Turkish Party is the main cause of the problems experienced by the Turkish Cypriot peoples Mr Eroglu said ‘we will change the government with the actions we will be taking inside and outside of parliament’.

1192 party delegates voted in the elections. Mr Eroglu received 740 votes while Tahsin Ertugruloglu only received 448 votes, 4 votes were invalid.

After three years once again Dervis Eroglu has emerged as leader of the National Unity Party.

Eroğlu who had served for long years as the UBP’s party leader and Prime Minister had announced his resignation and stepped down in 2005.

He had cited ‘utter chaos’ and the UBP’s ineffectiveness as the main opposition party among his reasons to return to politics and to run once again for the post of party leader.

POLITICAL PARTIES GIVE THEIR VIEWS REGARD DERVIS EROGLUS RETURN TO POWER

Reactions by some political parties over Dervis Eroglu being elected as the new leader of the National Unity Party has started to emerge.

Speaking during an event last night, the Secretary General of the Republic Turkish Party United Forces Omer Kalyoncu said Dervis Eroglu being brought back as President of the main opposition National Unity Party would not aid the country’s democratic policies.

Meanwhile the leader of the People’s Party Rasit Pertev evaluated Eroglu’s return to power as proof that no changes have been made in the National Unity Party’s policies.

I have no problem calling them that from now as they have been given orders by Turkey to make 50% of the candidates in the next election Turks that settled in the TRNC after 1974, do you now get my drift? Can you not see the tide turning against you with regards to whom you will have to negotiate with? they wont give a shit about GCs not unlike TCs who never want any harm to come to GCs and would genuine like a solution that would resolve everything.

I'm sorry VP, but the biggest losers here will be the TC's, specially those who live in the north, such as yourself. The fact that Talat on the instruction from Turkey is trying to seek a solution based on 2 sovereign states, as prescribed in Annan Plan which the GC's will not go for, and why should they if it means losing their rights to their land in the north, when they are willing to let all Cypriots, GC's and TC's be the owners of all of Cyprus in a True Federation. You will still have a state where majority will be TC's with power sharing, but this will not suit Turkey, so what difference will it make, which political party's strings are pulls from Ankara. No difference at all, or do you disagree with this view.?

But here's where the TC's become the biggest losers, because they will be reduced and replaced by settlers first in political parties, then in government seats, then in government jobs. You are already in the minority to the settlers in population, and no matter how much you want to claim of being a "Anatolian", the settlers will only see you as a "bastardised TC" islander and will brush you aside if you dare to stand in their way when they start to pass laws that will not be to your likings. You will soon abandon the island you love and let the settlers take over. You may ask, "well, what good will it do for the GC's if all of the above does happen". Good question VP. !!

First of all, the situation for them will not be much more different than what it is today, so where is the loss there. But this is where they will gain an advantage, and that is, from then on, any EU talks for Turkey, Turkey will have to deal with Cyprus without the concerns of any TC's, because the TC's will be so marginalised, they might as well be a fly on a elephant's butt, therefore, without any resistance from the TC's, Turkey will be able to cut any deal with the RoC that will suit her interest 100% on her way to becoming a EU member. Even if this does not happen as I see it, the future of the TC's are doomed one way or the other, so before you start giving the GC's warnings in their future dealing with the Turks, you best take note of those warnings to yourself and to the TC community.

Kikapu, I need your input to clarify a few issues here:

1) For obvious reasons, the TCs have never stood up against Turkey neither now nor in the past, so what is the point of raising the resistance issue ?
2) As emphasized above in bold fonts, do you sincerely believe yourself that Turkey is really on her way to become a EU member ?

Particularly, under the global financial crisis and the ensuing recession when EU itself is too preoccupied to save its own ass, let alone taking on economically fragile and politically unstable country such as Turkey?
Even when EU fared better, it was understandably reluctant to admit Turkey.

3) How do you reconcile the north being swarmed by an increasing numbers of settlers and being on the table for negotiations with RoC in a potential deal? I mean, the cost of shipping back the established settlers under AP was already huge and now that their numbers have been increasing ever more, who will bear this cost ? EU busy with own bail outs? Or Turkey with > 4 million unemployed ?

4) This leaves the other option: partition on 18%-82% split, but is it a good option ? Still many GCs will be put off, as not all of them will access their properties.

5) How do you reconcile Turkey' recent moves against RoC's oil exploration attempts with the potential deal you mention. Wouldn't she be better of avoiding this kind of confrontation with a EU member?
A country "on her way to EU".
