Bush wants history to see him as a liberator of millions...



WASHINGTON (AFP) – George W. Bush hopes history will see him as a president who liberated millions of Iraqis and Afghans, who worked towards peace and who never sold his soul for political ends.

"I'd like to be a president (known) as somebody who liberated 50 million people and helped achieve peace," Bush said in excerpts of a recent interview released by the White House Friday.

"I would like to be a person remembered as a person who, first and foremost, did not sell his soul in order to accommodate the political process. I came to Washington with a set of values, and I'm leaving with the same set of values."

He also said he wanted to be seen as a president who helped individuals, "that rallied people to serve their neighbor; that led an effort to help relieve HIV/AIDS and malaria on places like the continent of Africa; that helped elderly people get prescription drugs and Medicare as a part of the basic package."

Bush added that every day during his eight-year presidency he had consulted the Bible and drawn comfort from his faith.

"I would advise politicians, however, to be careful about faith in the public arena," the US leader said in the interview with his sister Doro Bush Koch recorded as part of an oral history program known as Storycorps.

As his second term in office draws to an end, Bush joked he would miss some of the trappings that come with the presidency such as trips on Air Force One, never being stuck in a traffic jam, and the president's residence at Camp David.

But he said he was glad to be stepping back into the shadows.

"Frankly, I'm not going to miss the limelight all that much. It's been a fabulous experience to be the president ... But it will be nice to see the Klieg lights shift somewhere else."

The interview, which Bush recorded with First Lady Laura Bush, will be stored in the library of Congress and a museum devoted to the Bush presidency.

Bush will go down in history as the only leader of such stature to have ever botched the occupation of a militarily defenseless country, instated tax reforms that inflated the national debt, turned a blind eye to lawlessness on Wall Street and allowed his entire country to get economically screwed while he did as little as possible to collect his $400K a year salary.

To put the magnitude of the problems the US is facing into perspective, the $700B bailout of the banking system, if repaid at a rate of $5M per day, will require about 383 years to pay off. Consider further that the cost to fix the junk-heap of an economy will likely exceed 7 trillion and we're talking 3800 years to pay this off.

It is the height of foolishness to expect the US to ever make good on it's debt at this point.

Bush, what a prat, the man who taught the world that "might is right", and he wonders why terrorists are trying to "liberate" the US and its allies.

As To Bush and his aspirations, I must say that I am somewhat in agreement with 'Jerry' (another connection with Nazism perhaps) although NOT as a cynic.

I consider myself to be something of a 'Realist' and as such can accept that those who are TRULY followers of their faith, consider the event of dying as a moving forward to a liberated and wonderful experience.

In THAT sense, George (and his associates) will surely be remembered for their contributions to the dispatching of so many innocent souls.

He never sold his soul because there would be no takers ... not even Satan would tarnish himself with so much blood on his hands.

I would never have believed one person could wreck so much havoc and remain so blissfully ignorant. Such meteoric boneheadedness surely deserves a place in the Museum of Mankind next to relics of Neanderthals and other (hopefully) now extinct links to civilisation.

Let's hope he is the last throwback to prehistoric man we are likely to meet for a long time ....
