PM SOYER BRIEFED FORMER GERMAN CHANCELLOR SCHROEDER ON THE NEGOTIATION PROCESS

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer has met the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in Berlin.

The Premier briefed Mr Schroeder on the latest developments concerning the Cyprus issue.

Mr Soyer also thanked Mr. Schroeder for his positive attitude towards North Cyprus and support to a balanced solution in Cyprus that suits the European Union.

For his part, the former chancellor said he was pleased to learn that the talks between the two sides were going well.

`The two sides can bring different proposals on some issues but the Premier is optimistic for a solution and the North Cyprus government believes that important progress can be achieved by mid-next year` Mr Schroeder added.

`We have agreed to organize a big celebration in case of reunification and I will be invited as well` he said, noting that he would be joining the celebrations with great pleasure.

Mr Schroeder said that the economic crisis facing the world and its possible effects on North Cyprus were also discussed.
Responding to a reporter’s question on the Greek Cypriot Leader’s statements concerning a solution in Cyprus, Prime Minister Soyer criticised him for just referring to some points of the 23 May Agreement that serve his interests.

The Premier pointed out that the 23 May Agreement reached between the two leaders envisages the establishment of a partnership state that will have a common international identity, sovereignty, foreign policy and representation in the European Union and the United Nations.
`Christofias who does not have the courage to tell the realities to his own people – is now ignoring some points of the agreement and talking only about single identity and sovereignty. This proves that Christofias does not take the issue seriously`, he said.

The Premier called on the Greek Cypriot Leader to adhere to the 23 May Agreement.

I wonder, with the public finances of the occupation regime being as they are, what was the cost of sending Soyer and his entourage to Germany for a jolly and what were the benefits to the "trnc" from meeting an ex-chancellor?

PRIME MINISTER SOYER MET WITH SDP AND GREENS OFFICIALS

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer is continuing his contacts in the German capital Berlin.

Within the framework of his contacts, the Premier will be meeting with the Cyprus Youth Platform’s branch in Germany.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister met with the Secretary General of the German Social Democrat Party Hubertus Heil and German Greens party co-president of the German Greens Party Claudia Roth.

Speaking at the end of his meeting with the SDP Secretary General, Prime Minister Soyer said that it had been an extremely useful meeting. He said he had given Heil a detailed briefing of the latest developments on the Cyprus Problem.

“In addition we exchanged views on how we can further strengthen and develop relations between our two parties. They said they would assess what we discussed. We told them they were welcome to visit Cyprus to see for themselves the wrong and misleading propaganda being waged by the Greek Cypriot Administration and Greece” he said.

Expressing the belief that the Europeans will support the Turkish Cypriot Side on the Cyprus Problem, Mr Soyer said this was because Europeans only supported, that was just, right and equal as engraved in EU principles.

“Europeans will not support developments which are in contradiction with EU principles”.

Speaking after her meeting with the Prime Minister, the Greens Party co-president Claudia Roth said that they were happy to see Soyer in Berlin, adding that their desire to see a Europe without borders where people could come together and build bridges was still standing.

“This is a difficult and rough path”, she said, but added that the opening of the Lokmaci crossing point should be a symbol for the people living on the island.

Pointing out that a solution to the Cyprus Problem must be found by Cypriots themselves, Roth said that Athens and Ankara should distance themselves a little bid away from the issue.

That's about it. The second article says

"insignificant German politicians (the Green party!) feed Soyer more salami."

Apparently Soyer has failed to realise that as a Muslim he should not be partaking of the pork products.

So why isn’t this thread appropriately titled… “Soyer gorges himself with German salami!” ? :?

I dunno, maybe Halil doesn't do 'catchy' headlines?

Just wait for the next installment of Soyer's Salami-guzzling Adventure.
